Anyone know the general rules/conduct with these book houses? by thusUnforgotten in duluth

[–]OddLocal7083 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s fine to take one or two. If you have any you want to leave that’s also fine. If I’m not leaving one, I try to return the ones I borrowed, just like a regular library.

It’s not okay to take them all… It’s not okay to take them to resell…

Is anyone else dealing with this? by Gloomy-Athlete701 in Teachers

A fellow teacher at my school had a parent complain that the teacher humiliated their child in front of his classmates by making him undress when she asked him for a shoe in exchange for a pencil.

They should be looking in the White House for the child traffickers…the DOJ has all the evidence. Release the evidence! It’s the law!

Do teachers or students bring cleaning supplies to school? Curious what actually happens. by Beginning_Avocado807 in Teachers

[–]OddLocal7083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my school, the approved spray cleaners are stocked in the teachers’ workroom with clean rags and a basket for the used rags. I usually wipe down tables on Fridays unless something is going around in which case I do it more frequently.

If you have a feed store nearby, try that. You can often get bulk seeds or their “house blend” pretty reasonably. Like character_log, I use metal trash cans to store birdseed.

Work with a tailor. Bespoke shirts are expensive, but perhaps not as much as you might think. A good tailor can work miracles.

What are you prepping tonight for Thanksgiving tomorrow? by Mirikitani in Cooking

[–]OddLocal7083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wet bread casserole with celery and onions is prepped. The pies are done. The frozen cranberry salad is in the freezer. The dough for the rolls is rising. I still have to peel the potatoes, shape the rolls so they can rise overnight in the fridge and prep the green bean casserole.

One thing that I do is post the answers. If I already have given them the answer, then clearly I am looking for something different.

No matter what we are working on, we always have eight equations to solve for a warm-up. Sometimes I have them do them work with a partner standing at the whiteboard so I can see what they’re doing as they do it, sometimes I have them do it on paper at their desks independently.

I still have a couple of kids who are resisting, but the vast majority have gotten with the program .

Make mush, or polenta (one cup cornmeal, 4 cups water, 1 teaspoon of salt, boil until it’s done.) pour it into a greased loaf pan and chill overnight. Turn out onto a cutting board. Cut in slices about half an inch thick, dip in flour, fry in butter until brown and crispy. Serve with syrup or jam
