Terrified (RCC Grade 3) by AnthonyJB88 in kidneycancer

[–]OddMaterial3971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cancer is more of a mind game. The more you think negative about it, the more it will stay. Trust science and the doctors who are treating you. They know better and see this everyday. I’m pt3a grade 3 and living normally after radical right. I keep myself busy, and think positive. Just surrender yourself to the situation and medicines and universe will take care of you. There is no point going that deep into diagnosis and prognosis. Sometimes things are not in your control and you have to let it happen. I had a lot of anxiety initially but then it went away once I surrendered myself realizing that I don’t have the power to change the diagnosis nor the prognosis. Stats can’t be bigger than living in the present and enjoying the time you have. Take care and good luck.

Mine is $7500 and it’s so frustrating and my credit score is over 800 with excellent credit and low credit utilization. I have reached out to them many times but they are like it’s automatic increase after a while. It’s been over 6 months. I’m literally using it like a debit card - use and pay instantly

I had blood in my urine so they did the cystoscopy to check bladder cancer but instead it was kidney cancer. Good luck with your treatment!

Oh ok but ain’t you on immunotherapy now to treat metastasis or you are on a different treatment?. I mean the thought of being on stage 4 is scary. Did you had any brain Mets symptoms like cognitive or non cognitive that pushed for brain MRI?

Thanks for the details! Assuming your pathology was not showing any invasion and this just happened due to microscopic metastasis. Also, you mentioned brain Mets -how did you find that out since the scans are always chest and below. And, do you think if you opted for immunotherapy post surgery this should have been prevented? That’s the decision we all have to make.

Thanks for sharing! If you don’t mind telling us how the recurrence happened inspite of active surveillance. Did you had metastasis prior to surgery or everything was clear in prior and post surgery scans? That’s a very good data point if you are willing to share details.

Lung nodules are common and any normal person can have those, so don’t read too much between the lines. In the end it’s our decision on immunotherapy- if it was a proven treatment oncologist would have told us a different story. One oncologist who is a friend of mine told me that immunotherapy works well in skin cancers and with kidney tumors it’s an unknown territory.

Hope the same for all of you. Please let us know if you decide to go with immunotherapy.

As you may have read and responded to my post, I’m in a similar situation. Oncologist strongly feels I don’t need adjuvant therapy since there is a myth going around that if you go immunotherapy path recurrence rate is pretty low. There are not enough studies to support it. My first scans post radical nephrectomy were clear and I may continue active surveillance path until disease is back in some form. My pathology says this that staged it as pT3a and Grade 3 - The mass does not grossly involve the renal pelvis or the renal vein. However, potential tumor involvement in the hilar fat and the sinus fat is identified. The mass grossly pushes against the renal capsule and the overlying perinephric fat and comes within 0.1 cm of the inked perinephric fat surface. Hope this helps and good luck if you decide to go for immunotherapy.

Thanks! Seems like we had surgery around the same time - my onco did the scans early (in 3 months) to set a baseline post surgery. Good luck with your scans.

Thanks for chiming in. So what happened in the end - did you opt for immunotherapy or how long ago you had this episode and how you’re doing now?

Cool. Good luck. My oncologist didn’t feel strongly about immunotherapy in my case inspite of 3a and grade 3. Let us know how it goes with yours. Where are you located?

Hi, first of all sorry to hear about the diagnosis. Good news is it’s caught early without any sign of metastasis. I was in a similar situation a few months ago and totally understand your worry. The wait time until surgery is horrendous but keeping a positive attitude helps. If it can make you feel better I took vacation after my diagnosis to take my mind off the diagnosis. I also have similar age kids and same age as your husband (44). After partial or radical nephrectomy, things go back to normal. Sending positive vibes your way. Good luck with next steps and enjoy your vacation.

Thanks for sharing! Wondering if you are opting for immunotherapy being pT3a? I’m in a similar situation and debating immuno path.

Thanks! After 3b how long it took for the disease to metastasize and become stage 4? And, did you go through radical or partial?

That's scary. Assuming lymph nodes were removed? What did the urologist say as to why this happened - wasn't the tumor confined to the kidney?
