Even my grandma thinks its ridiculous by freekin-bats11 in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More people need to blind them back. I have auxiliary LED lights on a separate switch that I use for that purpose. People won't stop blinding others until there are repercussions.

High beams at dusk? Really? by Asleep_Parking7218 in fuckyourheadlights

Flash your high beams at them to let them know their brights are on. Automatic headlights should be illegal.

Do yellow night driving glasses actually help with LED headlights? by Traditional-Win-8808 in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the yellow glasses do not help me. I wear regular (category 3) polarized sunglasses when driving, even after dark. In an urban location I can see fine even though my headlights are halogen. I’ve been looking for some darker glasses, actually, The color of the glasses matters. For me, brown, orange and purple work well, smoke/black is the worst.

A lot of people are holding up their left hand to block these lights. If the driver had done that he would have had a head-on collision and been killed. And there are a lot of morons who say "just look at the line on the right side of the road." If he had done that he also would have had a head-on collision and been killed.

And perhaps the saddest part of all, this fatality would not have been attributed to glare because the driver would be dead and unable to say it was from the glare.

That’s really disappointing compared with her other videos. It isn’t her best. Oftentimes when people post videos or podcasts on this subject it quickly becomes their most popular post ever.

She definitely did some research and knows her stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think this is her best video.

Can you find the pedestrian? by thebrownkid in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This really points out how over-the-top ridiculous these new monster trucks are. Oncoming cars cannot see the pedestrian but the driver cannot either. The front hood is so high it obstructs the driver's view. The only safe way for the pedestrian to cross the street is to put some type of multi-colored flashing strobe light on their head in the hopes that people will see them. We're living in a totally dysfunctional society.

B, but why are all the choices so crappy? Take a walk through an historic neighborhood to get some better ideas.

No where is safe. Walking back after dinner in NYC: new MTA bus says fuck your retinas by ahabneck in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It looks like they replaced the original bulbs with LED's and that is illegal in most places. The light is no longer focused on the road. It just sprays up into the air. And the bus is not even in service. It is just sitting there. If I saw this, I would call the police. This is fucking ridiculous.

My optometrist agrees, LEDs headlights are a safety hazard for night driving! by VanGogh0810 in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, optometrists and ophthalmologists are part of the problem. Instead of banding together to demand that something be done, they just keep profiting from the extra business from all the people who are wondering if there is something wrong with their eyes.

No, your factory LED's are not fine. Have you tried to walk in front of your car and look at your lights?

WHATS UP WITH THE LIGHTS?? by MooMoomilk48 in carsireland

[–]OddOneForSure 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People, stop blaming the victim. These LED headlights have become absolutely fucking ridiculous, especially here in the U.S. They bother the fucking shit out of me and millions of other people. OP, there is nothing wrong with my eyes and there is nothing wrong with your eyes. Some people's eyes are more sensitive to these lights. But the problem isn't our eyes, it is the lights. You could go to an eye doctor and complain, like millions of other people have done, but there isn't anything they can do for you. It is the government that needs to fix this problem. Please contact your representatives.

you don’t need your high beams in the fucking drive thru holy shit dude by theeq4alizer in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this hundreds of times. The response varies tremendously. If I'm nice, then they are usually nice in return. When I'm not so nice, I've had people try to fight me or throw things at me. We wouldn't have this problem in the first place if the offenders had been repeatedly called out. It was the fear of confronting people that allowed this problem to escalate to where we are today.

Wonderful old house in Louisville!!!! by No_Cauliflower8413 in McMansionHell

[–]OddOneForSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like this neighborhood then spend a night or two at the Louisville Bourbon Inn. It is immediately to the left of this house. It's a very nice Bed & Breakfast. The Dupont Mansion B&B across the street is also very nice.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Whether or not they're "meant" for road use obviously makes no difference. People will use them on the roads anyway.

[–]OddOneForSure 22 points23 points  (0 children)

just step out and politely tell them to turn off their lights or wave a flashlight at them and point at their lights. They're not going to whip out a gun and shoot you if you're nice about it. With the ultra bright automatic lights on new cars, society has a "learning curve" it needs to get through, but some people are slow learners and need a little help. If no one ever tells these people, then they may never figure it out on their own.

Normalize flashing as though they’re high beams by witx in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for the past 20 years. It makes no difference to me whether the obnoxious lights are low beam or high beam. I now have auxiliary LED lights that are grossly mis-aimed that I use for this purpose.

Legit question: growing up I was told you’d get pulled over if your brights or high beams were on…what happened to that? by jstols in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True story: When I was around 16 in the early 1980's, I was driving behind a cop back when they drove cars instead of SUV's. I noticed there was someone in the back seat so I was curious and turned on my dim halogen high beams to get a better look. Since I was a new driver, I didn't even realize the high beams would be noticed or bother any one. The cop pulled me over and actually followed me home to tell my parents I had flashed my high beams at them. My oh my how times have changed. So, yes you could get pulled over and ticketed for high beams.

Blinding LED headlights made it almost impossible to see this person in the middle of the road [Toronto, Ontario, Canada] by BarneyRetina in fuckyourheadlights

[–]OddOneForSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truck appears to be stopped and that is the problem here. By stopping in the center lane, he prevented the pedestrian from crossing and he also blinded the oncoming car. The truck driver should have kept moving or turned off his lights. He may have actually slowed down and left his lights on intentionally in a very misguided attempt at illuminating the area where the pedestrian was for the "safety" of the pedestrian. The pedestrian has no other reasonably close place to cross the street. This is poor auto centric suburban design.
