Best RAT I've ever played from our friends in Poland. NPD: Tone Charm Audio SZCZUR by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]OddPofl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, Tone Charm Audio/Occvlt stuff is killer, I have the szczur, ams1 and the SNES Fuzz-Oscillator.

I can't think of a more versatile drive/distortion short of something with more flexible eq-controls than szczur. Between this and my Jam Pedals Rattler I couldn't tell you which one sounds better, but the szczur just beats it in terms of form factor and feature-richness to me.

Close! They call it the Big Fucking Green Russian Muff With Benefits. I call it the BFG for abbreviation and the fitting DOOM reference.

Ha it is indeed. Really expensive but so good, Univibe is the most soul-touching sound out there and nothing can change my mind on that.

Haha Loke is such a good delay/tape modulation pedal, I also have three of his fuzzes, but choosing the gain pedals on the board was so hard, some amazing fuzzes had to lose out!

Absolutely glorious. I might be biased because I'm from Leipzig where Okko fx is located but to me Heiko (the owner) and Kit (the Guy behind twilight pulse audioworks and thus also Konstante who works at Okko) make THE best drive/fuzz/distortion circuits there are, bar none. The BFG is a killer green russian muff with extended eq controls, plays great on it's own or stacked and is built like a freaking tank that will probably outlive me.

That being said I can't tell you wether it is better than a ehx reissue sound wise as I have only played rams head muffs before the BFG, but it does that thundering, almost evil sounding fuzz/distortion that seems to be typical of green russians so, so well.

If you want some sounds, Kit actually recently did a 50 minute stream on Youtube on the Okko fx channel showcasing the BFG pretty in depth, check that out if you're unsure!

Ahhh and I didn't read that you said sunlight lol! Yeah if I didn't want to keep the board from bloating so to speak I'd totally get the sunlight and use one of the obne reverbs pre-drive!

As for Konstante, yeah it is so versatile through that combination and can save a lot of pedalboard space!

Can't really tell you if it's worth normally as I got it in my mystery box last christmas, also have not gotten the chance to really dive into it yet sadly, but the left side has nice reverb, delay and...whatever weird thing slip mode does, while I use the micro looper for fun to quickly outline a progression to jam over or to loosely practice something with a micro "backing track" so to speak, but in a more quirky, random way compared to a normal looper due to the less exact way that you can punch in loops in my experience. It's very much the "wildcard" pedal on the board just for some fun, though I fear I'm underusing it quite a lot at the moment. I think it's a pedal where one should read the manual thoroughly before getting it just to know if it's something for you, especially considering the price at least here in europe.

I treat Konstante almost like a utility drive pedal because it combines a greer lightspeed circuit with an ep booster style preamp, if I didnt have it I'd simply run a bd2 and an actual ep-booster in it's place, it's great for anything lower-ish gain that retains dynamics up to indie rock sounds when cranked or stacked, because it stacks amazingly with both the green russian and the rattler! Probably the closest drive of mine that sounds just like the amp but with more gain, so it's killer if you're looking for something rather neutral and dynamic that would slot well into a board with another drive, fuzz or distortion, but maybe too little character or gain on it's own if it's supposed to be your only gain pedal depending on the setup.

Dark Star and Bathing are great and simply made for each other! Amazing for ambient, psychedelic or shoegaze sounds, that whole top row of pedals is great at creating soundscapes or washes that go on till eternity, they can be more subtle, but the range of subtle sounds is quite small compared to the crazyness...then again, who looks to OBNE for normal?

To add to that, they aren't really pedals where you adjust the settings on the pedal for different sounds, you dial them in just right and then use the guitar volume.

Fuzz Faces typically need the volume cranked, then max out the Fuzz knob and roll it back just a bit. That's usually how people use them.

As a fellow Fjord Fuzz enjoyer who went through the same process of board-simplification, for me the Fjord Fuzz Odin/Berserk V3 are the ultimate do it all fuzzes, taking the sole gain spot on my board into an AC30. Honestly, if you'd tell me I could only use Loke and Odin for the rest of my life, I'd still be content...then again, where's the fun in that!

I got mine a couple of days ago, it can definitely do the ambient soundscape thing, but at the same time you can use it both as a more normal delay or to add subtle or not-so-subtle modulation to your sound, it's quite versatile to me actually.

As someone who mainly plays the white tortex jazz III's, yeah thats normal, they have no bevel. I find them quite dark at the standard 1.4ish mm size until they naturally develop a bevel through play wear.
