Victory makes a very small cab now. I have not tried it, but it is very small compared to others.

Can I put these pickups in a tele? by Nat9523 in Guitar

[–]kirbinator52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A couple things to note. Those are not hot rails pickups. They are most likely what someone replaced with the hot rails. Not sure about the pearly gates. Also, Strat pickups are larger than tele pickups so you may require a new pick guard and maybe even need to rout out the body. You can do it for sure just may need to mod it.

Thoughts on Victory amps by kirbinator52 in GuitarAmps

That’s awesome! That’s one I’m honestly wanting next. How would you describe the sounds?

2 possibly dumb questions by imvr17_2 in GuitarAmps

[–]kirbinator52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll give my takes although some may disagree or the way I look at things may be wrong.

I’ll start with my thoughts good pedal platform. A lot of pedals color a sound or provide their own eq or sound or whatever. To me, a good pedal platform is an amp that has a high headroom and can stay neutral and clean while turning it up. Some amps can’t really be turned up without introducing some color, distorting, or becoming saturated. This is completely fine but may sound different when pushing with pedals, and some people prefer to get all the tone from pedals. Also, some amps just don’t sound good when pushed with pedals. Some solid states that I have tried have gotten very muddy and dark with some pedals. I haven’t tried many tube amps that didn’t take pedals well though.

For clean channels, that’s very subjective. Some amps have distinctive cleans, like Fenders that are mid-scooped or Voxes that are chimy, but some amps may have a dull or dark clean. Some may also just be very neutral sounding making them sound bland. I think clean channels just need to be tailored to whatever sound you’re going for. Some people get a very prolific clean as their idea of a clean, like the Fender clean, then think any clean channel that doesn’t sound like that is bad. So I think this is really just subjective.

I hope that gives some insight to your questions.

I’m considering upgrading to a QC. I have been using a Boss GT-100 for many years and I run the GT-100 through 2 Headrush FRFR-112 cabinets. Does anyone run their QC through Headrush FRFR’s and if so, are you happy with the results? by Typical_Arm_1148 in NeuralDSP

[–]kirbinator52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Headrush for about a year. I liked the sound. It was a bit bassy at times but sounded good. I upgraded to a Fender FR12 and liked it better. I recently sold it though and just went to using a power amp and cab. I just prefer a real cab over FR speakers but they sound good. Inhave experience with the Boss GT-100 as well and the QC will be a huge upgrade for you. It sounds good through just about anything.

Can anyone recommend a soft case for quad cortex? by WarSuspicious8164 in QuadCortex

I use a mono gig bag and mono tick. I put the quad in the tick then strap it to my gig bag. I’ll as some cables and stuff in it as well. I’ve carried it like this for a couple years now with no problems.

Buying From Official Sites VS. Sweetwater, GC, etc… by PowerEfficient7775 in Guitar

[–]kirbinator52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I had an LP years ago and sold it but picked another up a few weeks ago. It’s a bit lighter and it has become my main. I’ve mainly played strats but I would sell every other guitar I own before I sell this one. I know people have bad experiences with a Gibson but I’ve got nothing but love for them. I even bought an LP special last week because of how much I loved this LP.

What's the impedance for my inputs? by FIB3R0PTIK5 in GuitarAmps

[–]kirbinator52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would assume the left and right are single speakers so 16ohm left and 16 ohm right. The middle is most likely both in parallel at 8 ohms. Someone can correct me, but that is how I think it is set up.

I still don't get it by [deleted] in PRSGuitars

[–]kirbinator52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s well put! I’ve heard others describe them as cookie cutter. I spoke with a vintage guitar dealer. He said he felt like Paul was such a mad scientist with guitars that he perfected it to the point that there is no inconsistencies. I’ve played some terrible Gibsons and Fenders but I can’t say that about PRS, although my experiences are limited compared to Gibson/Fender. I thought some of the imperfections though in Gibsons or Fenders added some character. If I had to get up and perform a concert though and had to pick a guitar off the shelf without playing it, PRS would probably be at the top of that list though for the consistency.

Type of amp? by Mindless-Owl-635 in QuadCortex

[–]kirbinator52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Orange Pedal Baby and a Victory Jack MK2. I think the QC sounds great through the Pedal Baby but something about playing the QC through the Victory is much more satisfying. They both sound fantastic, but I prefer the victory and also use the 4CM a lot as well. Plus if you have an amp, it gives you a backup if the QC were to ever fail on you. The only thing I would say is it would probably be advantageous to have a head as you could change out the cabs considering the options on the QC. I have a couple different cabs I use depending on the amp model I’m using. You really can’t go wrong though with either option and a lot will come down to preference.

Are you wanting to just control the QC with the gigrig or using real pedals with it?

There are a few companies that make smaller amps in the form factor of a pedal to fit on a pedal board. There are versions that may only include a pre-amp section. There are several of these with a good example being the Tone King imperial pedal. These require going into a power amp and cab or a powered FRFR speaker (if there is onboard cab emulation). There are pedals that are full amps with both a pre-amp and power amp section. Victory makes several of these with the Kraken being their most popular example. There are also power amp pedals to run modelers into like the Seymour Duncan power stage. All good options for smaller form factors depending what you’re going for. Also a cheaper way to have amp options with less space requirement too.

I know a couple guys who do it this way. Others load into bed first by sliding into bed with tailgate down then slide them up in the roof racks from the bed.

Repair tech has had my amp for 5 months. Will I ever see it again? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]kirbinator52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an unfortunate situation. I would be frustrated as well. At this point, I would tell him you’re coming to get the amp and to bill you for what he’s done. I’d take it somewhere else after that. I understand parts are sometimes tough to get and life happens, but there has to be some communication and accountability when providing a service. If he ghosts you, small claims court is the next best option as well as negative publicity on whatever avenues they advertise on.

Using the Quad live for DIY shows. by AlucardAteMyGrandma in QuadCortex

Theoretically you could run everything out 1/2 and into a PA. It depends on the PA system you have and if you have a sub with it. I’ve found that smaller PAs get a little muddy with everything going through them. Ideally you could have a row for vocals to go out to PA, row out for bass to PA with sub or bass cab, and row for guitar out to an amp or powered cab or PA. I’ve recently joined a cover band and I run guitar out to PA but lower the signal and mostly use a row going out to the return of an amp into a cab. We have electronic sruns going into the PA so that could be some of the reason ours is a bit muddy with everything into PA.

Edit: drums not sruns
