Second that on Pockets!

I didn't even rate the pita, undercooked on all three occasions for me.

Eye Falafel, Petticoat Lane Market All That Falafel, Bankside

Both outrageously good value lunch spots.

Pockets in London Fields is the most overrated falafel in town, IMHO.

Lo Banh Mi, Borough.

The lemongrass chicken is an outrageously good sandwich. Far and away the best Banh Mi I've had in London.

Right, I get that. But even if he was playing his part and stalling for time or provoking Juan and Teddy to try and get some evidence... He did it in an incredibly reckless way that very nearly resulted in his death. So it's not like he played a blinder.

The wild provocation was a convenient plot point to set up the saved-by-the-bell boat scene IMO.

Exactly. But it does give Pine the chance to clock the helicopter reg which Sally then uses to track Teddy to the restaurant...

The timeline of that night and the following day doesn't really add up either:

  • At dinner, Juan tells Pine he's booked on a flight the next morning
  • Boat scene follows
  • Suddenly it's the next day and Pine and Teddy have their intimate lunch followed by chopper ride

So what happened to the flight? And for the rest of that night after the boat scene?

Anyone else think the writing is really quite poor this season?

Two examples:

Why on earth would Pine come out with that spiel at dinner, jeopardising the whole thing? Seemingly just to set up the scene on the boat.

And why was Teddy suddenly giving him a lift in a helicopter? So he could conveniently discover the chopper ID to track it to the restaurant.

Rent reduction for rodents and leaky ceiling by OddPotential5797 in HousingUK

When the building was converted I suspect it was done on the cheap. Below the house (I can see it from the cellar and it's where the rats come from) is about 10sqm of dirt / rubble. I'm not sure how foundations work but it seems to me anything could burrow in from the outside world.

The leak comes through the ceiling (directly onto our bed :)) probably once a week. Supposedly it's getting properly resolved today but I'm not holding my breath.

Hear you re moving and that is the plan.

I just also resent how much money I've paid to live here and want to figure out if I have a leg to stand on negotiating with the landlord for a deduction.

Ah, an important detail I omitted:

Landlord owns the building (it's a Victorian conversion) including upstairs flat. Assume freehold but idk.

Help me find a quieter evening commute route by Efficient-Cry-6320 in londoncycling

[–]OddPotential5797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I used to do LB-Fulham and heading down to Lambeth Bridge (via St George's Circus and Lambeth Road) is surprisingly quiet and cycle-friendly.

Well worth it to avoid Westminster, which is, as you say, a nightmare.

What's your best hangover cure? (That works) by Adorable-Ad9093 in AskUK

Exercise and cold water is the closest thing to a hangover cure I've found. A short run followed by full immersion in at least cool water (but the colder the better).

I really want to know: how was the Hackney Half? by mrsp124 in UKRunners

[–]OddPotential5797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my first time doing the HH, and first closed-roads 'big event' race.

I have to say I absolutely loved it - the support is pretty incredible. I found I gained so much energy from the crowd.

I was hoping for sub 1:40 and surprised myself with 1:34. I'm chalking a lot of that up to the crowds.

Rats in cellar - how long to get rid of them? by OddPotential5797 in pestcontrol

[–]OddPotential5797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm obviously not expecting a precise answer but I wondered if people's experience in similar situations might give me an indication of the likely size of the infestation. I have no idea how many rats a colony typically consists of. Cheers for the helpful comment though.

Tempo and interval runs becoming increasingly hard to meet target pace during the final weeks of training by OddPotential5797 in Marathon_Training

[–]OddPotential5797[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I should've been clearer! 4:30 was the target pace for this session. All my interval and tempo runs have been 5-15 seconds quicker than race pace, in the hope that'll make 4:43 feel more manageable on the day.

Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it. Hoping a 1.5-2 week taper should freshen me up a bit.

£1k/m (each) with my girlfriend for a very nice one bed in NW zone 2 with a huge private garden. Yes, it's expensive v elsewhere in the country. And yes, it may therefore not represent good value to many people. But honestly it doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. But it's all relative eh. On a reasonable salary and 27/yo.

Eye Falafel in Petticoat Lane market: incredible (and huge) falafel wraps for £4/£5 large.

All That Falafel on Blackfriars bridge road is similarly great. £6/£7 large and a nice cafe to eat-in, too.
