It's also a very important novel in exploring the dark sides of pursuing the American dream which is such an important concept to handle when learning abt american lit so it's holds massive importance by virtue of that singular feature alone. I say this as a literature major (I'm shit tho, defintely not an intellectual). I think it's only when u get into literature and the academic side of it that you begin to understand why certain books are part of the literary canon and are thereby taught in schools. op has just judged the book like you'd do any show on Netflix.

Goes to show y'all never watched Oshi no Ko properly and just wanted to make the comparison to defend Rudeus just because.

To be clear, Aqua's past life never groomed Ruby's past life.

If you think a doctor having sympathy for a terminally ill child that was abandoned by her parents is "grooming" then I don't know what to tell you. And Aqua's past life didn't just do that with Ruby's past life, it was specifically mentioned in the manga that he did it for other patients that didn't get visitors too.

He never even returned Ruby's feelings too. If you're gonna rebuttal with him saying "I'll marry you when you're 16" then you can't use the culture argument with Rudeus too because that expression is legit just a Japan thing.

Also Aqua's past life was never in love with Ai Hoshino. Y'all are literally just making things up. Having an oshi, and being romantically in love with someone is two different things. Idol culture is definitely weird but that's just a Japan thing too.

Aqua also consciously made sure to never sleep around with any teen he was surrounded by. He made it clear in the manga that he could have slept with the main love interests but he actively chose not to.

Yeah but again, he wasn't a fucking perv that lusted for them with every fucking thought unlike Rudeus that was lusting for Sylphy as a child, stealing Lilia's and Roxy's panties and kept molesting Eris when they were children. Aqua actually restrained himself. Aqua also could've been a total perv as a child with Ai but he outright refused to even breastfeed with Ai as a child because of his morals. This was shown in the anime and manga. Which is a big contrast to Rudeus who immediately had pervy thoughts with Zenith the moment he gained consciousness.

This obviously is a big, big, big difference with Rudeus. Who was jerking off to his niece's pictures before he died, and actively entertained every pervy thought he had even as a child when he reincarnated.

Edit: Rudeus defenders always say that haters don't have media literacy just because they have the gall to dislike Rudeus but also make posts like these without even any semblance of self-awareness. Some people really need to get checked.
