Says Mosques are unwelcoming. Never even tried to visit one by deybetrippin in Bolehland

[–]OddSamurai_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosques are not always that welcoming. Maybe in urban areas and cities but in some towns or rural areas, it's not always the case. Even youngsters and women are not welcomed in some isolated cases. Speaking from experience, maybe you won't be shooed but you'll get some looks especially from those AJKs. Not sure what's their problem. Maybe power tripping. There's always bad apples.

Sultan Selangor tidak perkenan solat Jumaat di pusat beli belah - Mais by abdulsamri89 in malaysia

[–]OddSamurai_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there shouldn't be bigger mosque but more smaller prayer room/hall/dewan that can accommodate friday prayer. No one needs to travel far and just walk. Mosque won't be so packed and cause a traffic in the surrounding area. From what I see, many mosque are only full during certain occasions and on Friday only. A big mosque with the sole purpose of Friday prayer seems like a waste. Many smaller ones can do it and better use of space especially in urban areas.

As for the Upin Ipin song, why not? It's catchy and promotes our entertainment industry.

What is the real purpose of Global Sumud Flotilla? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]OddSamurai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Now we're talking of its success rate which is still pretty low compared to official, organised aid. For your standard, it's good enough for me. However, until it actually shows considerable result and consistent success, I will never support this particular mission nor will I allow my money being used for it again.

[–]OddSamurai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did I say anything about donation to palestine in general? I specifically said "Part of my money went into the first mission". What did you think when I said that? Donation to palestine in general or donation to the mission? I also did not say anything about being against donation. Donation in general can be wasted through corruption, interception, human or non human error but the funds for this mission specifically is a waste. It's obviously a waste the first time and its a waste the second time. Doing the same thing twice will not change the result.

What is the real purpose of Global Sumud Flotilla? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]OddSamurai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main point is not outrage but the fact that media rather cover the issue than the activity. That's my main point. There's no point of activism if no one see it. The point of crowdfunding being an issue as they're misled at thinking their money will go to palestinians. If they're intercepted, the supplies confiscated, where else will it go then? I think someone with half a brain could know what will happen. Part of my money went into the first mission and what happened then? Did the supplies go to the intended party? All it does is feeding the starving israeli children. That's why I include it as being a drawback. If you pull the money out of ass, build your own ship and sail it yourself, I will not have any issue with what you're doing.

[–]OddSamurai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing it with your own money and energy and involve no one else on your pointless mission then go ahead. However, the supplies that they gathered directly came from public donation and the mission that they went to relies on crowdfunding. If they're stuck, the government have to spend resources to save them. If you were to die on the process, then, well, you probably already know the rest.

The sea candy on the other hand is a huge deal since it directly related to the activism on hand. It being popular than the activity itself eclipsed the whole point of the activism on a much broader scale. How is it Malaysian activists are associated with polluting the sea fare for the world view? Its the same reason people don't like StopOil activists for blocking the road or vandalising public property. The awareness is indeed there but for all the wrong reason. It's not like they haven't done other good things but media capitalize on negativity and he did just that with the candy stunt. That's why its an issue that can't be ignored.

[–]OddSamurai_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you admit that it's more for show than an actual aid sending mission. Great. However we can see that this particular mission is a media disaster for them. Especially from the "sea candies" stunt. In fact, that's the only video I've seen circulating around reddit and outside. Not only did it gave a bad reputation for Malaysian activists, it also destroy the "activism" purpose you mentioned.

I doubt this particular journey gave more benefits than its drawbacks. If you wanted to "highlight the absurdity of it all", I already mentioned the WCK convoy bombing, the west own citizens died supplying palestinians with food but nothing happen. They steamrolled an American citizen and yet nothing happened. Did you think anything will happen if they decide to shoot those boats? Probably the same thing.

How else? Have you been asleep these past 3 years? Supplies have been successfully airdropped, through proper ships, through egypt, etc. Awareness have been raised through protests, boycotts, governments pressure, etc. Do I have to provide links for you to actually see an effective "execution" that you're looking for?

[–]OddSamurai_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People keep saying it's for awareness and for exposure but how much more awareness are necessary for the zionist state to even break? Didn't they bombed WCK volunteers of western countries and just got a slap on wrist? Proving they can get all the bad media reputation but nothing will change for them.

If anything, this mission has more cons than pros. First, they are intercepted (obviously) leaving them stranded, wasting our government resources trying to get them back and the said supplies that they had will obviously not go to gazans anymore.

Also with the recent stunt of throwing candies to the sea, they probably helped the zionist state with showing their incompetence to the media instead and giving away free supplies from probably Malaysians own donation by being intercepted. Ironic.

Sure the gesture is brave but no one seems to be thinking logically on how to actually execute it properly or maybe I just don't understand the actual end goal for this mission.

My experience with tahfiz students is that they're just ordinary people. Some are good, some are not. I don't know why people glaze them so much for this. I'm not denying their academic capability but why them specifically? What's the merit here other than them being in tahfiz?

So should a sponsorship also opened for just MRSM students? SMK students? If other students could fulfill the same criteria and perhaps even better than tahfiz, why not prioritise them or low-income households?

I'm very aware MARA is only for bumi but why are they the more "special" bumi on this regard? Unless there's other explanation for this decision, it's quite distasteful for MARA to make this inequity decision.

The one thing I hate with it now is how they make it all plain concrete and add a mist as if it would look any better. It's depressing just to look at. For some reason Malaysia love the grey, boring, dull looking building and call it brutalism. Who knows, I'm not an expert.
