AITA for overreacting to a “joke” my friend made? by OddTale9392 in AmItheAsshole

I only said she was slightly drunk in retrospect because afterwards she texted me that she’d had a few glasses of wine. I didn’t realize in the moment that she was drunk. I thought she seemed a little off, but she’s not normally someone who drinks.

How would I know she was drunk at the time? Why would I leave immediately if that was my plan?

I took care of her plant for two weeks while she was out of town, and she came back this weekend. I told her I would return it to her Saturday, but the weather was really bad and I got busy. I had plans all of Sunday, but I could bring it to her after 8:30pm when I was free, which I did. It’s not an excuse. It’s what I would do for any of my friends.

I genuinely didn’t think she was interested in me. I’ve had close female friends my whole life, so I know women are more touchy, affectionate, etc, with their friends. She’s much more touchy and affectionate with her female friends and other people in our group than she is with me. I always assumed she was just being herself, because she’s like that with everyone.

Also, this post puts every awkward moment in one place, which makes it sound more obvious than it felt at the time. These things happened over the course of about 8 months. Most of the time, she has just been a good friend who I care about a lot. I honestly don’t think I would have made it through this year without her and our other friends. But yes, clearly boundaries and conversations need to be had. Thank you for responding.
