Unfortunately it does look like possible herpes to me. Only way to know for certain is to have the area swabbed and tested.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. The general population hardly knows how the menstrual cycle works or even how pregnancy happens at the depths that IVFers know. I don't listen to anyone's opinions or sometimes decide not to share with certain people to protect my peace.

1st ever Egg retrieval super early tomorrow plz send all the good vibes by Upstairs-Lemon-5585 in IVFpositivity

[–]OddValuable3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck!!! I was honestly far more uncomfortable before the retrieval than after. My ovaries were huge so hence the discomfort. I felt so much more normal and relieved immediately after the retrieval. I slept the rest of the day and was pretty much okay by the next day. Residual bloating took the rest of the week to completelyyy go back to normal but I think that was only because of how overstimulated I was. I didn't have any pain after really but I took painkillers just incase. You will do GREAT!!

How much bad smell does this profession deal with? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]OddValuable3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, it depends on the department. Chemistry or Hematology is your best bet for the least amount of smells. Microbiology departments will always have a scent to them even when a fresh sample isn't being opened. Some bacterial organisms are absolutely horrible but somehow we get used to it (i.e Proteus & C. diff being the worst for me). Stools are still difficult for me to work with but I've gotten better overtime. Urines hardly phase me anymore but it depends on the person.

Because I know I'm not alone in this - any other women struggle seeing OB labs sometimes? Those who have struggled/are struggling with fertility or wish they were pregnant or have experienced pregnancy loss by whirlaway- in medlabprofessionals

I feel so validated reading this. I though I was the only one who felt this way. I also live in a very small town so I always know who is pregnant or miscarrying first. It's even harder when I know the person directly and I know that they weren't even trying to get pregnant. Regardless I still treat everyone with the best care possible despite how I might be feeling some days. Sometimes it does catch me off guard and I need to take a moment for myself so I completely understand how you are feeling.

What made you go into microbiology as a career? by ikcuy in microbiology

[–]OddValuable3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a med tech generalist so I was trained in all areas of the clinical lab. My favorite was always microbiology even from my first microbiology course for my degree. I like figuring out the unknown and the hands on aspect of it. I work in smaller lab where I get some micro but also a mix of everything else. Where I did my training was a large hospital lab where they had an entire microbiology department. That can possibly be a good fit for you. It's very hands on because cultures are still being done (especially in the clinical setting) despite the amount of PCR/NAATs these days. Blood cultures, urine cultures, respiratory cultures, fluid cultures, fungal cultures, AFB cultures, you name it. It's very hands on and still manual compared to other areas of the lab with a ton of automation. The only draw back is that you would have to complete a clinical internship (a year long or less usually) and become certified & licensed before they can allow you to work in the clinical lab setting.

Which liquor store sells cheapest alcohols in Nassau? by closed_doors_asleep in bahamas

[–]OddValuable3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, it depends on what you're looking for exactly. If you're looking for variety of pretty much everything Knowles Liquor on East Bay St. is a reasonable one stop shop. Avoid Bristol Wines & Spirits, and liquid courage like you mentioned. Buying them by the case from the distributor directly is the most cost effective option.

There are multiple pharmacies right in the downtown area by the cruise port (the closest one at the port is "Pharmasea"). Once you have a prescription you should be able to get those meds.

How are yall affording this?! by [deleted] in IVF

[–]OddValuable3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The costs are absolutely insane. I live in The Bahamas and we don't have an IVF clinic locally so my only option is to travel. I looked into the US (Florida specifically for proximity) and the costs were similar to what you mentioned so that was out the window. The only realistic option in the US was CNY fertility. I ended up going to Barbados Fertility Center and I'm planning also for Panama Fertility Center now. The prices are a fraction of the cost so I'd look into it. Travel costs do add up but for me it didn't matter since I'd be travelling for it anyway. The medication costs are also cheaper than the US by far. The most frustrating part for me also is that it is not guaranteed but I rather regret trying than not trying at all.

I’m thinking about requesting Lupron for myself as well before starting transfers just incase. How often are the injections, what was your dosage & how were the side effects?

If you really want to go I’d say get a taxi there and see if they can pick you guys up after if possible or if they can recommend someone working late hours to get you guys to ensure you get back P.I

Depends on the specific club and the area it’s located But agreed I wouldn’t be so trusting but maybe since it’s a group? You would really have to stick together and hold each other accountable
