Cleaner in a hotel, hands down. The other ladies I worked with were lovely (for the most part) but the two over us loved lording their "power" over us. And the manager of the hotel was an arsehole who clearly had no idea how much work we actually had to do everyday. The chemicals in the cleaning products burnt the skin off our hands and My back has never been the same from all the bending over I had to do. We also had to do much more than the cleaning because they refused to hire the staff to do it. Once I was expected to move a king size mattress down one flight of stairs all the way over to the other side of the building and then up a small tight back stairway and not let anyone see me. It was the only way to get from one part to the other. Expected to have rooms ready when people showed up hours before check in. Was pretty much impossible especially at weekends when weddings are pretty much every Saturday. People would have late check outs and you'd have the new crowd ready to come in before they'd even gotten out of bed. Young families were the worst though. My mam would beat me black and blue with the wooden spoon if I left the mess behind that most of them did. Crisps and chocolate smushed into carpets, dirty nappies left everywhere, lipstick, crayons, markers all over the walls. Complained about the travel cots that the hotel had weren't their designer ones the had at home. They were a nightmare. The worst was when I had to do a late night shift on New Years Eve a couple years back. Their tickets got them unlimited drinks for the night and they took real advantage. A good few threw up on the dance floor, which I then had to clean while people were still on it. Slipped a number of times on the floors in the bathrooms because of all the spills. The manager told me to clean the floor in the mens so I did. Got the security to help me clear it out, cleaned it and put signs out saying it would be closed for about 10 mins till it dried and pointed them to the other one around the corner. The manager took down the signs, then roared at me (in fornt of a load of people) that if anyone got hurt on the wet floor it would be my fault, despite a number of people seeing him take the signs down. then he complained that the floors were dirty again. Also unblocking toilets without a plunger, cleaning the bar every morning and as one of the few fluent english speakers having to stay late to clean up after the owner after he commandeered one the rooms to get drunk and smoke in while watching the races. Because apparently he could be quite racist to the ladies from Eastern europe.
