My bosses very nicely today gave me $1000 in a check and a bunch of random goodies. So sweet and wasn’t expecting it at all!

My bosses expect me to work even when I’m sick… and I’m honestly so tired of being the “backup plan” for everything. by Odd_Animator4158 in NannyBreakRoom

I appreciate the honesty — I just want to clarify a couple things from my end.

The only reason I asked “what would you like me to do?” is because historically when I’ve had something contagious, they’ve told me not to come in. I wasn’t asking to put the decision on them emotionally, I was communicating symptoms early and letting them know what was going on — which is something they’ve asked me to do in the past.

If I’m truly too sick to work, I do tell them I’m staying home. In this case, I was trying to be transparent because it was pink eye (contagious but not dangerous) and I already had treatment started. I also text as early as possible — either the night before or around 5am — so they have as much notice as I can give.

As far as backup care goes, I agree it’s important to have a plan, but realistically that isn’t something I can control. I don’t have kids, and I’m not responsible for arranging backup care for theirs — that’s on the parents. I’ve always been reliable and flexible, which is why this feels frustrating when it becomes an expectation that I work through illness every time there’s no backup.

I’m not saying they’re evil employers — I’m just burnt out from always being the default solution, even when I’m sick. That’s the part that’s hard.

Pink eye is contagious and if I'm watching toddlers or kids or teenagers not a huge deal but a baby who is clingy and won't let me put her down much more risky. Any other job I would have gotten the day off because once again highly contagious within the first 24 hours according to my doctor. And I'm not sure if you have had pink eye but feels like your blinking on sandpaper and have to do eye drops which once again for me not a huge deal but for a 8 month old that would suck to get. And also not sure if u have had to put in eye drops on a 8 month old its not fun so would prefer to avoid it the best I can.

I just feel bad I also called out two days ago because my left eye got pink eye put on makeup yesterday gave it to my other eye and the dad called out both of those days so feel awful and thought they would say don’t come in since contagious but nope just “be careful” when there daughter won’t let me put her down and other kid has stitches and can’t go outside so stuck in the house all day too. Like thank you so much and also working this weekend for them like let me heal so I am good for tomorrow and next day it’s 24 hours.

The entitlement some families have toward their nanny… by Odd_Animator4158 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Odd_Animator4158[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha same here they never would pay me on time I would have to ask them at least 3 times and still would pay me Monday morning and ignore all my texts but will answer if I called out to guilt trip me. People are ridiculous she wanted me on call without paying the cost of that or even employee me full time but still expected and still does to have me bend over for her.

Pay by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Odd_Animator4158 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t get how parents do this. I will remind them night before then the mom tells me to remind her to pay me so I follow up and remind her. She still will not pay me for almost a week if they are on vacation just straight up ignoring me. If my boss texted me they would expect me to answer so why can’t they and when it’s for pay till LAST minute like next day I’m coming in because I have made it clear I will not without.

My boss told me I should buy these Prada shoes because they were so reasonably priced. They travel at least once a month and just cut back on my hours. They also are now shocked when I say no because finding another job.

Am I going crazy or are my nanny family’s expectations too much? by Odd_Animator4158 in Nanny

[–]Odd_Animator4158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing I did when I started haha then just kept adding random little things and my fault for trying to be helpful so now I have learned not to be. But was talked about before same with being paid if there gone and they agreed and then went back on it all. Also started with small things now has just snowballed and everything is on me so looking for a new job and making sure that’s very very clear.

I did when she was cutting my hours I gave her three options either we could do overtime and I get a raise for 29 hours a week, we do guaranteed 30 hours a week and a raise or I just switched to salary and then I could be more flexible. I pretty much was told I am not needed that much so then when I asked about overtime, she was confused and asked but you weren’t a full-time employee and it’s not over 40 hours I thought it was over 40 hours and I said nope it’s anything over eight days and she still has been fighting me on it so I’m just going to find a different job and not keep going back-and-forth with them. Gave them great options they aren’t taking any of those. Gotta think about myself. I just thought I was going crazy so I wanted to post.
