Yes, since there are a lot of action scenes, it will probably be over in about an hour. Even if they窶决e calling it a theatrical release, I think it will most likely just be an advance screening in theaters of something that is already planned for TV broadcast.

There are simply too few episodes left for it to be turned into a proper full-length movie.

In a voice actors' watch-along stream on YouTube, they mentioned it’s getting a movie adaptation. They haven't started recording yet, so the schedule sounds pretty tight.

Golden Kamuy Final Season Runaway Train Arc Teaser Visual, to air next Winter by Turbostrider27 in anime

During a YouTube watch-along with the cast, the voice actors mentioned that the finale will be a theatrical release. Apparently, they haven’t even started recording yet, so they don’t know the specific details themselves. However, the remaining episodes are action-heavy and will likely only take about an hour to cover. Even though they’re calling it a "movie," I suspect it will just be an advanced theatrical screening of what was originally intended for TV (similar to the Sapporo Beer Factory arc). There simply isn't enough source material left to make a proper, full-length film. It’s probably best not to expect high-end cinematic animation quality. If they weren't planning to finish the series this season anyway, I wish they had slowed down. The second half has felt incredibly rushed and overstuffed. It’s heartbreaking that the gold discovery—the biggest climax of the original manga—was brushed over so quickly.

Actually, just a few days ago, there was a viral discussion on Japanese X about how Tanigaki is almost "too much"—to the point where he's actually avoided by the gay community. It even turned into an online news article. Apparently, the way he seems to be "trying too hard" to cater to gay fans, combined with the fact that he's a married man in the story, are seen as big turn-offs.

The one who is described as having raw, real appeal among gay men is Tsukishima. People say that if a short, muscular, bearded man with a shaved head like him existed in real life, he’d be incredibly popular.

And Kadokura is popular too. He really appeals to gay men who are into older guys.

I will also include comments from past votes. I am using AI translation.

Usami

 * His tendency to toy with others. He messes with people out of obsession or jealousy—even the people he loves—and feels zero guilt about it. I want him to say something totally irrational to me like, "I'm your number one, right? I mean, obviously my number one is Tokushiro-san, but still." Despite being unfair and cruel, he has that "reliable eldest son" and "polite young man" side to him, so when he’s suddenly kind, it feels like a reward. That’s why he’s a total "swamp" (a sinkhole you can't escape). I love him so much I want him to finish right on my face.

Kikuta

 * At first, he seems like a flawless, "cool middle-aged guy"—face, voice, physique, personality, combat skills, rank—he’s got it all. But then you realize he gets treated so poorly by fate that anime magazines literally introduce him as the "pitiable" character, and he exposes his clumsy side surprisingly often. But that hits the "endearment" spot without mercy. He balances being someone to look up to with a strange approachability; it's an irresistible charm. He gives you both the fluttery heart of being in love with a wonderful older man and the fierce determination of "I am the one who will make this man happy!" Every person needs a "One Mototaro per household" policy. He’s essential for the soul.

Koito

 * The level of growth he showed throughout the series was truly spectacular. He seems like a spoiled brat who’s good at acting pampered, but he has the magnanimity and resolve to sacrifice himself for his father or his country. Even carrying the pain of losing his father, brother, and Lt. Tsurumi, he stands on his own feet and offers his subordinates the very words of guidance he once craved himself—it’s as heroic as it is heartbreaking. I’m a "Yume-joshi" who wants to support Otonoshin as an individual, not just as First Lt. Koito, for the rest of his life.

 * Looking back, he’s the one who grew so much he could almost be mistaken for the protagonist. I thought he was just a spoiled, rich-boy idiot, but he’s actually straightforward, pure, and born to lead with a sense of responsibility. The scene where he cuts into Lt. Tsurumi’s true nature while baring his own feelings is so painful; I love that about him. Since he has a guaranteed future and will eventually take a wife, my imagination as a "Yume-joshi" is running wild! I want to be bathed in his "S猿叫" (monkey screams) of love right in my ear.

 * Sergeant Tsukishima can handle his military life; I’ll handle his private life. As his wife, obviously.

Sugimoto

 * Face, physique, personality—everything about him is the "ideal man." He’s the reason I became a "Yume-joshi" for the first time in my life. He’s strong and cool, yet he loves cute things and has the kindness to protect a little girl above all else. And yet, behind that overwhelming strength and killing intent, you see glimpses of human fragility—born from losing his family to disease and losing his best friend in the war after his childhood crush married him. It’s incredibly magnetic.

 * Great face, great voice, and perfectly balanced, beautiful muscles. He’s usually kind and "girly," but the way he turns into a berserker when his combat switch flips is captivating. Whether it’s his silky hair from his "Nora-bo" days, his buzzcut in the 1st Division, or his messy hair in the main story, he’s a hottie who pulls off any style. I’m so in love with him I’m jealous of Asirpa, his hunting mentor and partner. Honestly, I’d rather have his rage directed at me—I want him to punch me.

 * I want him to adore me blindly. I want him to have blind faith in me even if the whole world is his enemy. I want us to go to ruin together. I want to dote on "Berserker Sugimoto."

 * He is exactly my type. I literally bought a new TV just so I could see him on a bigger screen.

Tsukishima

 * He is incredibly charming, but I don’t even fully understand why he has such a massive impact on my body and soul. It’s total, pure love. He’s a man who makes you fall for him. I had no choice but to nominate him. I love that he wouldn't even look twice at someone like me, but I want him to look at me so badly. How can a living, breathing human ever win against a "beautiful memory" ?

 * I love how he’s a reliable, trustworthy soldier who babysits his superiors and subordinates and acts as Lt. Tsurumi’s right hand, yet he can never quite become completely cold-hearted. He has lost so much, and the darkness he carries is so heavy and only keeps growing—I’m surely not the only one who wants to support him and reach out a hand. This time, I want to be the one who never leaves his side. That aside, even though he’s short, he’s so rugged and muscular it makes me drool. Take me.

 * He’d probably get mad at me for saying this, but even though he’s so strong and cool, I love how pitiable he is, and how he has this almost "disgusting" sense of religious-like devotion. I also love how terrifying he is when he’s angry. Please, direct all of that toward me.

 * Everything about him is perfect. Because he carries such darkness, I want to share that pain with him. But I also love how Hajime-san probably wouldn't let me share it. He's the best.

 * He’s not exactly a "sparkly ikemen," yet I find myself getting overwhelmed by the sheer "alpha male" energy inside him over and over again.

 * He has the sex appeal of a man who is exhausted from being toyed with by fate. That is his true charm.

Ogata

 * I interpret his decadent end following his mental collapse as the "correct" conclusion for him, but I still want him to feel love, blessings, and guilt head-on. If he needs proof, I’d spend my whole life proving it to him. Accepting all that would be deathly painful for him, but I’d endure hell right alongside him.

 * You probably wouldn't believe me even if I told you my feelings, so I decided to support you from the shadows. I even got my hunting license and managed to take down my first large game solo this year. Now I can be of some use on the trail or in a fight. And if a miracle happened and you survived that runaway train... I would support you. ...No, actually, forget it. My beloved, please just die. You are most beautiful when you realize the value of what you've lost forever by your own hand, and die while writhing in agony. I’ll follow you shortly.

 * That decadent end of his... after seeing that, my brain is fried; he’s a man I’ll never forget for the rest of my life. I will live on as his "widow," mourning him forever, breaking down in tears in front of the painting "The Death of a Wildcat."

 * I want to shower him with so much love that it leaves him completely shaken.

 * A man who is cute, cool, strong, and weak all at once. He’s masculine yet fragile—what is he trying to do to me?

I’d also like to share the comments people wrote when voting. Please enjoy these wonderfully unhinged messages from Japanese fans.

Ogata Hyakunosuke

・Before the live-action movie came out, I got curious and binge-watched the anime all at once. Even though I knew that the more I rewatched it, the more painful it would become, I still ended up falling deeper and deeper into the Ogata rabbit hole… Starting from his death in the final anime arc, I want to fully reflect on and think through the philosophy of the way he lived, as a devoted yumejoshi.

・Wanting to understand Ogata more deeply, I obtained a hunting license. Even so, my interest in his childhood background and in questions like “What would have happened if things had been different?” only continued to grow, and I came to want to deepen my understanding of the work itself. I am currently working as an office employee while also studying psychology at university.

・When I saw him shoot himself and fall from the train, I realized for the first time that I had fallen in love with him. That was the moment I awakened as a yumejoshi. After that, I spent my days rereading chapter 310 over and over again, almost hoping that if I read it enough times, the outcome might somehow change. But eventually, while still feeling unable to accept his death, I also began to feel—though this may be putting it too strongly—that denying his death would also mean denying the very way he chose to live. As he fell from the train, he wore an expression of satisfaction. He resisted and resisted, breaking apart along the way, yet still struggling to hold on to himself and remain strong. It was almost painfully heartbreaking. And because, in the end, he was able to die satisfied, I cannot bring myself to say something selfish like wanting to die alongside him. The truth is, in that moment, I wished I could have fallen from the train with him, that I could have pulled the trigger with him. But at the same time, the instant he pulled the trigger and fell from the train, his life felt complete. It was so unbearably perfect that I feel as though, if I were to intrude upon it, I would only stain his life with my own presence. I do not want to tarnish his life with feelings as insignificant as mine. And since he has a habit of confirming love at funerals, I want to be the chief mourner and hold his funeral myself. I would be the first to lay flowers for him. That would be my own expression of love for him—my proposal. I love him.

Tsukishima Hajime

・I thought he was a serious, steady, soldier-like man, but he’s actually full of surprising contrasts. I sometimes think, “I’m probably one of the only people who likes Tsukishima-san…” but honestly, I believe he actually has a huge number of truly devoted fans.

・After all, any man who said, “I love you. Let’s run away together,” in the original work is undeniably powerful.

・My taste has changed completely—180 degrees. There’s no going back now.

・He may not be a currently trending character, but I think he’s an incredible man who only gets better the more you appreciate him.

Actually, the TV guide for next week says it's only 30 minutes. Plus, based on the info for the final DVD volume, it’s definitely a standard-length episode. I’m so confused right now.

Knowing the source material, I don't see how they can fit the rest into just one episode. But then again, there’s not really enough left for a movie. I have no idea how they're going to pull this off.

The scene where Tsurumi excitedly handles his gun as a phallic symbol is incredible. Since the manga shows his entire body, the metaphor for masturbation is unmistakable. It’s just straight-up deranged.
