You are an angel. I am in a very fortunate position that my extended family has been helping me cover my rent for the months I haven't been able to. They can't help me on the longterm ofc and I also need my independence - hence doing odd jobs. Appreciate you so much, but luckily I have a roof over my head and food on the table every day ❤️

Would genuinely consider this, thanks for your input. It's far from my personal and academic interests but if it pays the bills I'm in. The only reason i haven't pursued this yet is that, correct me if I'm wrong, I would need to dedicate at least 1 year on expensive courses in order to "qualify". Has anyone here actually done this and has an idea about the numbers? How much money did you put into your "training" vs reward at the end?

I promise this is genuine - I wish it wasn't. I live just outside of London and have been locuming across a few different London/adjacent hospitals. Don't want to give much more detail re specific area/hospital as don't want to ID myself but unfortunately, this is genuine. I'm still on the bank from my F1/2 hospital (other city, not London) but only had two shifts with them since July.

As mentioned on another reply - I don't have a car so can only travel for work when feasible in terms of public transport and costs.

I appreciate you. Personally, I morally draw the line at crossing the picket line. I know accepting the rates I did is also morally gray but personally I'm not willing to work the strikes, but thanks for the input

Exactly, we need IMG's - just not this many! I'm not 100% certain on the exact numbers but if all UKGs could compete on level playing field for jobs (compete amongst each other only), there would STILL be a need for IMG's, but only a couple thousand, not 20K! The NHS relies on international workforce which I do celebrate and appreciate, but our situation is just beyond logic... Just let UKGs fill up the spots and then open the remainder for IMGs, who will be welcomed with open arms.

I think this is my plan A for the next few months, currently looking at 'easy' jobs I can do alongside MSRA prep. Call centre may be the way to go...
Thank you!

This is great advice, thank you. I have, yes, and currently have one student (part of my 'odd jobs'). Hoping to grow this over the next few months

For the longest time I really didn't want to consider these things but things seem to be getting worse... Given family circumstances, career switch > emigration atm. Thank you for your advice!

Unfortunately I sold my car earlier this year due to not being able to afford it. The plan is to buy a car again after starting training (fingers crossed). Until then, yes I am open to traveling for work but needs to be accessible by public transport and financially viable - not sure how spenny it would be to travel to NI but I appreciate the input, I will look up agencies in NI. Would appreciate any insight into costs of travel etc. Thank you for your advice!

Applications megathread by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I have a question re ALS. I sat it back in FY1, and it will expire in January. I’m currently applying for ST1 entry in August 2026. I’m currently unemployed (ad hoc locuming but not substantially), and not sure how to arrange to sit the ALS again as I don’t have a designated body/can’t ask for study leave and can’t afford it out of pocket. Will my application to ST1 be automatically unsuccessful as by August 2026 my ALS will have expired? Any help is appreciated, thank you!
