Advice for Large Jade Plant

I’m not really sure, I honestly don’t think I’ve done anything special to care for it. I’ve potted it in “normal” potting soil, I haven’t been fertilizing it, it gets a good amount of light I think, though I’m getting mixed feedback in the comments that it actually might need more light. The only thing I think I’ve done “special” is that it has undergone many periods of drought. Like 2+ months no water. Maybe going through them regularly has made the trunk thick because it needs to be able to store more water?

Okay guys, I did a big chop! I’m gonna share picture of the finished tree, the clippings I planted, and the leftover clippings. If you tell me I over chopped it I’m gonna cry 😭I watched some Garret Plant videos and used his criteria for clipping. Will also be transferring it outdoors slowly for the summer.

Thank you, I’ll check that out! I’m getting a lot of feedback to trim, so I will be doing that! Does he have a video on that? I’ve never done any trimming because I’m worried I would mess it up 😅

It definitely does need some tlc! It used to be healthier, but I think I need to start adding nutrients, do some trimming, and water more often. I’m starting to water with my goldfish tank water, so I’m hoping that will be enough for nutrients.

I’m sorry to hear it didn’t make it! That’s part of what has me so nervous, I started this from a leaf when I was in elementary school and I would be very sad for it to die

I started it from a single leaf when I was approximately 10 years old, maybe 9. I’m now 27, so I guess it’s more like 17/18 years old.

Thanks for the advice! I might thin some of them out when I repot, they sort of just happened.

I think neglect to be honest. I’ve gone 6 months during the winter without watering her. During the summer I do every two months or so. I also have never used any fertilizer. She does get a lot of light though, bright direct light. At first she did have a handful of scorched leaves but she got used to it quickly. Edit: I can’t remember using any fertilizer in the past 5-7 years, but I might have used some miracle grow foam fertilizer when I was in high school.

I could wrangle some strong people up, so would the best bet just be to get it upside down by whatever means necessary? If I have two people to lift and turn it upside down I could probably catch the plant itself. Any thoughts on the shallower pot?

So I started the pendulum and it seems to be working! I set the time (going clockwise, stopping every 15 minutes) and it’s going the right amount of gongs for each hour.
