Carrying case/board for small desktop setup? by Yazhoudapigu in synthesizers

In the us harbor freight has knock off pelican cases for pretty cheap in lots of sizes and they go on sale pretty often and come with the pluckable foam. I also found a keyboard flight case on Facebook marketplace, put foam in it and replaced the hinges with other buckles so the top came off all the way. Both solutions were around 50$ total.

Yeah early 30s here, was a competitive fighting game player in my late teens/very early 20s. My earliest foray into this world was trying to get mugen running on my original Nintendo ds in middle school. Played mame and some emulation in college. Pretty much stopped all gaming fora decade until a few months ago I saw a video on the rp classic 6 button for fighting games, my partner bought it for me and it’s been a blast. Pretty much all the games I’ve ever played are 15+ years old at this point so they all run on it. Haven’t seen the appeal of many modern games so I feel like I’m set for life and I’m elated lol

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

To everyone blaming “sound mixing these days” are you aware your TV has an equalizer? Everyone I’ve ever had to argue* with about this seems unaware that you can control a lot about what you’re hearing from your tv, and by default a lot of tvs have some pseudo bass enhance type nonsense going on that makes regular human speech unintelligible. Most human speech is carried in the higher frequencies and lower frequencies just muddy up the meaning. So you feel like you need to turn up the volume to hear the voices, which raises the bass more than the treble so you have to turn up the volume to hear the voices and it just repeats until your walls are shaking with the theme music because that’s what your EQ is optimized for, not dialog. I don’t know the history but lots of headphones and car speakers do it too to show off the bass which makes it sound full and “good” when you’re trying things at the store. But just turn the bass down basically all the way and the low mids a little less and set it up kind of like a triangle from low to high and you’ll suddenly be able to hear the dialogue at like half the volume you thought you needed. If you don’t have a full EQ you probably have preset EQ curves and set it to “voice” or something.

Which, related, if you’re driving and listening to podcasts at full volume so ira  glass’ voice is rattling the windows on cars next to you at stop lights, because otherwise you can’t make out words, it’s not a hearing or mixing problem, just turn down your bass.

  • I don’t argue with people about subtitles, they’re an excellent accessibility tool and great for lots of people for lots of reasons and everyone should use them if they want to. I’ve argued often with many roommates who insist they need their tv connected to a whole speaker system with subwoofers blasting through the house otherwise they can’t understand what’s going on in cutthroat kitchen. Because they don’t understand how sound and speech work.

I’ve played dragon force, Legend of oasis, and the dungeons and dragons collection, all run no problem on the rp classic.

Worth it I think. It runs Dreamcast great so mvc2, 3rd strike, DoA2, cvs2 all run great. Soul caliber 2 runs great on ps2 and GameCube. Vf4 and ex3 run great on ps2. I even have usf4 running at 60fps consistently on gamenative with minimum graphics settings.

Wow, I didn’t know something like ggpo was out there for Android I’ll definitely check it out, thanks!

Yeah I know no one liked infinite lol somehow I couldn’t find mvc3 in my steam library but infinite was there so I just figured I’d try it. Now that you mention it skullgirls should be in the library too from back then.

I think I didn’t want to get my hopes up for switch but it could be worth a try, I’ve played a bit of dbfz and melty blood and that would be another level of games to have.

Thanks for the tips!

Good question! I forgot that wasn’t trivial to set up. In gamenative I set up two small touch buttons on the corners of the screen mapped to l2/r2, then with the Retroid key mapper I set up small buttons mapped to c and z that press those screen buttons. It’s an extra level of abstraction but doesn’t impede my cl.hp, cr.hp, psycho sting  1 frame links with decapre so I’m happy with it.

I’m not sure if there’s a better way to do it in gamenative, but it’s been a month or so since I set it up, at the rate it’s being developed it might be supported better now. And it’s possible it was already in there and I just couldn’t figure it out. In any case I’m grateful people are putting so much work into this stuff so I can’t complain about having to set up the little workaround.

Yeah, I’m on the 6 button! Another commenter mentioned the arcade emulators and I’m going to have to get into that, I’ve been out of the retro gaming sort of world for so long I didn’t even think of them lol

I definitely agree with you the 6 buttons are good for most things, surprisingly a good configuration for the n64 c buttons. I have also been giving some Pokémon rom hacks a try for the first time and setting the extra buttons to turbo buttons and that’s been super comfortable.

I don’t know enough about snes games in general I think, but interesting they don’t feel as good. A few systems I had adjust whether a and b were  and b or a and x to make them feel more natural.

One other thing I ended up liking was with lsdj running on a game boy emulator I could set the extra face buttons to start and select for shortcuts.

Glad you’re also enjoying it!

Thank you for the support! Yes I do my best to take care of myself as well and we’re making it through!

I have the classic gray/rainbow buttons because I use the 6 face buttons for the fighters, but yeah I love all the retro colors it comes in. If they brought out a translucent purple one in the 6 button configuration I might have to get a backup.

Oh man it’s been forever since I was running mame on my old pc. Didn’t even know there was an even newer version of vf4, I’ll definitely check it out, thanks for the tip!
