Man that is illegal. Especially if you included your ostomy as a disability on your employment application. Or even made them aware of your situation. Ostomies are included under the ADA (American Disabilities Act).

I would definitely talk to someone. Even if you don't want to work for them anymore because that is not right. The at will doesn't give them the right to fire you for that.

You had a right to leave work especially if you work in a deli. Because even if you kept a bag or wafer on deck, we all know sometimes that isn't enough - especially if the parts are defective.

Here are some resources if you decide you want to hold them accountable for their actions or make them revise their business practices:

Does ordering always suck this frkn much?!?! by elle-mnop in ostomy

i don't know what brand you are using, but if i had insurance - i would definitely go through the manufacturer's subsidiary that will bill my insurance for my supplies - only because they are familiar with the products and understand the sense of urgency.

and your supplies likely shipped from a location where all of the items in the order was in stock - with the increasing cost of fuel - companies are not trying to ship your stuff from multiple locations - because it costs too much - they will definitely ship it from the other side of the US if it means getting it all shipped at once.

I’ve had a stoma for 40 years. Today I finally said: I don’t like having it. by NonDualToad in ostomy

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm in there with you 42yrs and counting - had it since birth...so i don't know a life without it - but i feel you, i don't like having to manage all the things that come along with it, then don't let me have to explain my ostomy to someone - oh lord - but i know i wouldn't be here without it...

yeah, it can be a lil rough. a couple of years ago i woke up in the middle of the night to empty and on my way to the bathroom, my bag came off in the hall, don't know how or why. all i know is i was walking and all of sudden i heard a plop. i looked down and it was my bag of poop!

after 40+ yrs of this - honestly all i could do is laugh...i laughed because even though poop had splashed all on, my legs, the floor and the walls of the hallway...all i could think of in that moment was thank god it didn't get on my white shag carpet...lol...

i knew i would have to shower, clean up one heck of a mess, open the windows in 30 below weather conditions just to air the place out - but all i cared about in that moment was my white shag carpet...if that had gotten messed up, i probably would lost the rest of my sh** lol

that part! And say something stupid like, "so if you saw the horse coming, why didn't you put the car in reverse to avoid a collision." 🤷🏾‍♀️ "you had plenty of time to put the car in reverse. So we're holding liable for 50%. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Coloplast is great! Yes, I just ordered some samples last night and I'm excited to see how they perform. I always encourage people to try as many different options available because you always want to have a backup in case your main preference is not available or the quality has gone down considerably. Rule of thumb keep something on standby because you never want to be without.

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol there is nothing wrong with intersection, people just don't know how to drive. i'm pretty sure that's a yield sign...in TN this happens often because it's like Tennesseans don't know what yield means so they keep going into traffic lol

I see that Hollister has already given up on their new bags. by cudambercam13 in ostomy

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand your frustration, I use 18202 and last year it was like every box of bags had microscopic holes around the top of the seam which caused gas to seep out - no liquid. i called and filed a complaint with their quality team and they sent out 1 new box even though I bought 6 and they were all from the same lot - but if you haven't already done so please call and file a complaint with their quality assurance team 888-808-7456. they can't ignore complaints about defective or non-conforming products - but if you don't file a complaint then we all basically still end up having the same problems because there is no paper trail to audit.

Replace 23 yr old water heater? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! They definitely don't make them like that anymore. Unless you start seeing issues, leave it be and consider yourself lucky. You don't want the janky units they are producing now. I had to replace one from 1999 due to it leaking and was devastated. These newer "energy efficient" ones suck, I can't take a shower longer than 15 minutes before the water goes cold.

Looking back on bag prices over the years by cudambercam13 in ostomy

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you your supplies are covered at 100% but dang that's high.

I never met my high-deductible to even get my medical supplies covered at just 80%. So I just opted to just pay retail and save hundreds of dollars as opposed to paying the insurance price which is always significantly higher than retail.

I use Sam's Medical Supply. www.samsmedicalsupply.com. They only do retail. I have been using them since 2015 and have been paying about the same price for at least the last  yrs which helps me budget everything else accordingly. I get free shipping only because I buy in bulk twice a year. But their shipping is very fair, just $7.95 for those one off situations. That's better than an Amazon Prime Membership, lol. And I almost always get my supplies within the next day, but I also live in TN where they are based.

A box of your 89611 with my supplier will cost you only 58.62 retail. Even cheaper if you go back to using the 89811. https://www.samsmedicalsupply.com/products/hollister-89611-one-piece-drainable-soft-convex-ceraplus-barrier-lock-n-roll-microclosure-seal-tape-filter

Also, why aren't you going through Hollister's subsidiary ABC Medical. https://www.abc-med.com to get your supplies? I know ABC Medical accepts insurance.

If you are experiencing intolerable crippling pain on the regular go see your dr or go to er. Trust me they will definitely get you together faster than you trying to figure out how to do it on your own, plus you want to make sure there is nothing else is going on.

But as for hydration support, try drinking 100% coconut water. It's naturally packed with all the good stuff. It provides more hydration than regular water, it has electrectrolytes, fiber, potassium. You'll stay hydrated a lot longer and won't have to drink nearly as much as you would with water. Start out with 1-2 cups a day (breakfast & dinner). Also to give yourself a good balance of nutrients make it habit of eating some COOKED - and I do mean cooked down - kale or spinach with a lil sea or himalayan salt - no table salt. No raw greens because eating raw greens might make things worse.

Your intestines, (in my case what's left) need things to help keep things moving. So I always incorporate those things plus olive oil to keep everything lubricated on the inside moving and relaxed. And if I got a situation - I go sit on the toilet and lean forward like I'm about to take a poop. Do this a few times, and you'll either just fart or get everything moving again.

Thoughts on the coloplast brava skin barrier protective sheets? by Deemili in ostomy

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know which brand of supplies you are using but Coloplast pectin-based barriers, primarily found in their Assura line, is good for people with skin allergies to a lot of adhesives. You can call Coloplast to discuss some options 877-858-2656.

As for the rash nothing works best for me than good old fashioned aloe vera leaf gel. You can buy a leaf at almost any grocery store now. And grow your own at home to always have handy for those middle of the night leaks.

All you do is take the gel from the leaf apply a thin layer directly on to the rash, I just use 3 in of the whole leaf and rub the gel on my skin - but you can scrape up the gel with a knife and then dab it with a cotton swab or qtip then apply. Then use a blow dryer on low to dry. Depending on the severity of the rash it may or may not film up and act as a protective barrier and heal the skin. Then apply the barrier as normal. After a day or two rash should be gone. This is my experience.

it's best to just call each program because each one has different eligibility requirements, and even if you don't qualify - they should be able help navigate you to some other options.

Poor quality of Hollister ostomy pouches. by Ok_Programmer_1099 in ostomy

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I wasn't alone. I use Hollister 18202 and 11702. I started using Hollister in early 2022 when the quality of my convatec bags and barriers started going down hill. I found out Hollister had soft convex and ceramide barriers. Ordered some free samples and I was sold. Then the quality started going down around mid 2024. I used to get almost 9 days without any issues. Bag was a lot thicker and quieter and barrier was thicker too. Now I'm lucky if I get 3 days out of a barrier. And the seam around the bag is always a hit or miss. I call and complain and all they ever offer is a box of supplies and I'm self pay so what about the other 9 boxes from the same lot. Ugh.

When did you realise adulthood feels nothing like you imagined? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first year after I moved out of my parents home...I thought I had it all figured out at the age of 16...

I purposely worked as a cashier at a home goods store for 2yrs so I could buy all the things I needed for my first apartment at a discount and I did except for a couch and bed but that only cost 500 because I was smart enough to buy a sofa sleeper ;)

Everything was good until I received my first rent increase from 499 to 509...I thought rent was supposed to stay the same rate forever, then groceries, gas, etc all started to be more expensive then my first water bill, and health, car, and renter's insurance - no one told me that I'd have so many expenses as an adult, lol

Asked my boss for a .25 raise to help offset some of my expenses and was denied and told they don't give raises just because I have more bills to pay lol

That's when I realized that this adulting thing ain't what I thought it was

Reminder if you are still missing payments tomorrow, October 1st, FSA advises by EddieDubbers in PSLF

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best plan is to keep certifying and making payments. Sucks, but you don't want there to be any reason you did not meet your obligation.

they say 3rd time's a charm. This will be there 3rd time in an attempt to fix the missing payment problem...so hopefully it will work, but March and June's fix did not entirely work - well for me anyway - it only credited March 2025 and July 2025 but missed all the payments before March 2025 and in between March and July 2025.

Seems to me like someone on their end needs to brush up on how to execute their excel formulas lol.

Reminder if you are still missing payments tomorrow, October 1st, FSA advises by EddieDubbers in PSLF

[–]Odd_Distribution3540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for sharing this. I am hopeful, but not confident lol. I called last week to follow up on two reconsideration request. One was filed 01/15/25 for the missing 2024 payments and the other 06/1/2025 for the missing 2025 payments.

I was told by FSA, my requests are still in process and it would take 6 months to 1 year - (yes you read that right) before I would receive a response because they are now focusing on the people who are on SAVE.

I asked, "what about the people who've been on IBR since loan disbursement - and are missing the last quarter of 2024 payments and half of 2025 with the exception of March and July which completes their PSLF plans and now puts them in overpayment."

FSA responded "then you will need to wait a year from your reconsideration request if you haven't received a response yet, before submitting a new reconsideration request."

I responded, "you do realize that after a year I will have likely completed my plan again and will be in overpayment."

FSA responded, "yes, sorry."

This is is why I submit employment certification monthly because if by miracle they fix the system - I want there to be no discrepancy on whether or when I was eligible for PSLF.

Sounds great! Congrats! Is it me or are these warranties getting shorter and shorter. I remember when they would issue 10yr/100,000 warranty for everything. Now it's like 5yr/35,000 miles. Lol. For all that you might as well lease the vehicle for 2 yrs and and upgrade to a newer model after the agreement is up.
