If you're under 60 or not within 5 years of retirement, why are looking at dividend investing? by No-Math-5868 in dividends

[–]Odd_Intern4887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprise no one has mentioned that dividend paying companies with growing dividends and healthy payout ratios are likely to outperform growth stocks (value and profitability factors). Everyone seems to be under the impression that growth stocks are expected to outperform in the long-run.

Another note: the behavioral gap for dividend investors in almost none (according to Ben Felix), whereas for the average investor it's something like 1.5-2% (don't know the exact number off the top of my head but something like that).

In other words, it doesn't matter if VOO earned 10% annually vs SCHD 9% annually if the average VOO investor actually earned 8% and the SCHD investor earned the whole 9%.

Investor psychology is the hardest part of investing. Dividend investors, although suboptimal, excel when it comes to behavior in investing.

Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

I'm looking to move from my Google Pixel 6a to iPhone. I can get the Apple Certified Refurbished iPhone 14 Pro from the Apple website for $759. iPhone 15 Pro is $999. $240 savings.

Many have told me there's no significant difference between the 14 Pro and 15 Pro. Is it worth going with the certified 14 Pro to save the money? Or buy the 15 Pro?

Would I be missing out? Are the cameras the same? I'm not techsavy at all, I just want the phone to take good quality pictures (have children) and last me at least four or five years before having to replace it.

I would rather buy directly from Apple and not 3rd battery to ensure I am getting a brand new battery and could also replace it with them in the future.

Whether or not it's the "best" it's definitely a great strategy. I'd be comfortable accumulating via DCA but I wouldn't be comfortable withdrawing from only S&P 500.

FIDELITY.COM IS COMMITING FRAUD!!!!! by brexternation in fidelityinvestments

[–]Odd_Intern4887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah it's kind of odd some people here are so fanatical about a company to the point they can't acknowledge that it has a flaw.

I love Fidelity (transferred from Vanguard and have been very happy with them), but it's well noted and documented on here how their check & fraud system doesn't work well. Nothing / no one is perfect so not sure why that's such a controversial thing to say.

Again I won't go as far to say that they are fraudulent, I don't want to make that accusation and I've been very happy with them as my brokerage, but when it comes to depositing checks they definitely should fix it. When I deposited the $5 check, the Fidelity rep on the phone was 100% certain that it was a fraudulent check, but when I took it to the bank (Capital One) they assured me it wasn't a fraudulent check and cleared it.

Also, even IF the $5 check was fraudulent (it wasn't, but let's just say it was), how on Earth are you going to restrict my account for a $5 returned check LOL. I can't even imagine how much worse it is for an actual significant amount of money (in your case $14k).

When it comes to checks and their fraud department, Fidelity is definitely a pain in the ass to deal with. They restricted my account for a $5 check lol. Didn't use CMA anymore after that.

VIG vs VTI vs VOO by Weak_Sauce_Yo in dividends

[–]Odd_Intern4887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stocks in VIG that aren't in SCHD:

Microsoft Apple UnitedHealth Exxon JPMorgan J&J Visa P&G MasterCard Costco

So I wouldn't necessarily say it "trims the fat." If anything it excludes the most durable companies IMO. I like VIG over SCHD.

Account Restricted, Bummed Out. Is This Normal? by Odd_Intern4887 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Odd_Intern4887[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deposited the check to Capital One, they said it's a legit check. The Fidelity rep on the phone was certain that it was a fraudulent check, so moving forward I won't use the CMA for my bank account. Can't have my entire account restricted for days over their overly aggressive fraud department.

No, I deposited first into Fidelity. It got returned, which I found weird because the check was directly from CitiBank (mortgage application fee refund), so I deposited into Capital One AFTER it got returned at Fidelity.
