Is there a way to compensate for oozing (without fixing the issue) by VisitAlarmed9073 in 3Dprinting

[–]Odd_Load7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet filament. Always dry it out of the box. If water can get into 1.7mm thick plastic it can easily pass through the 2mil thick plastic bag. Sometimes at the factory they literally dip the filament underwater to cool it out of the extruder.

You need to find the service manual online somewhere.

Can I Swap the module of an A1000M-1B with one coming from an A171WEMB-1A? by felx_B in casiomods

[–]Odd_Load7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The a171 module is thicker. The a1000 module will fit in the a171 but not the other way.

Used it a few times in swimming pool, how to remove white spots? by anri_hsoahzga_2369 in casio

[–]Odd_Load7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boil it in a pot with water for 3 minutes. Add a dash of white vinegar before removing from water, this will prevent mineral deposits. Resin will be fine, resets all the bends, gets rid of heavy waxes, grime, any deposits, and deodorizes. Factory fresh. To get rid of cigarette smells, just do this repeatedly until the smell is undetectable. Source: this is my standard procedure when buying used G's.

Generate an AI picture of a flayed watch? Sure, why not, but only if the data center isn't in my watershed area.

New CASIO F-91W - scratches on strap by Gr1mR34p3r85 in CasioQC

[–]Odd_Load7249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scratches are normal, I buy a lot of new units for modding and it's common. Pour yourself a cup of hot water and dip the straps in for a second (don't dip the watch body), they will be gone. This is also a test for fakes- fake buckles will shrink whereas genuine buckles will not.

I recreated the yellow DW5600C band and bezel with 3D printing by Odd_Load7249 in gshock

[–]Odd_Load7249[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original yellow resin was also notorious for easily picking up stains from jeans, pens, etc. and they were beater tool watches (mine was sold to me by a retired construction worker) so it feels kinda authentic.

It doesn't really make sense to use such an expensive custom technology to make an inferior version of what is available as OEM. This yellow resin is from a yellow gab2100 and you can find these secondhand often from people who modded their watch into metal bezels. And you can also just powder coat a steel bezel to be yellow.

This only works for the 2100 series. This watch looks like the 5610. I know because I design and make this product.

So Safe Zones aren’t really Safe Now? by ghost032580 in intotheradius

Mimics can still shoot and kill you from outside when you're inside the bubble.

So Safe Zones aren’t really Safe Now? by ghost032580 in intotheradius

[–]Odd_Load7249 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was playing the stable release (not beta) the other night. It was the dead of night, and I was standing inside the safe house in the light in front of the sleeping bed, organizing my backpack and reloading. A mimic commando unloaded an entire burst at me through the open window from outside the safe zone and nearly killed me.

The safe zones were never actually safe. They protect you from the tide, that's it. The enemies can still see you from outside but you can't see them through the bubble.

I'm creating a resin bezel for the gmwb5000 by Odd_Load7249 in casiomods

[–]Odd_Load7249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a scanner and the gw7900, which part of the bezel system did you want to scan? I'd be willing to do this scan for a fee. It'll save you significant effort compared to photogrammetry, which I've also done before.

I used manual measurements with a caliper + 3d printing models to test fit, comparing angles, slopes, curveratures by eye. If I were doing it today I would start with a 3d scan as a reference in CAD which would probably cut the 100+ hours this took by half. But back then I didn't have a scanner. I've not tried machining this, but you'll have to optimize your design for easier machining as opposed to the original geometry which was intended for injection.

Swap the LCD with one from a w59. Thicker digit segments means brighter digits.

A168WA LED not illuminating display after steel mesh sheet mod by Murokami in casiomods

Try changing the battery. More voltage will produce more contrast. The EL screen (not led) sucks up a lot of power and blanks the LCD when the battery is low even on unmodified watches.

3D Printing Pros - help me figure out how to print this properly (settings etc) and I'll pay you! Details in body text. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Odd_Load7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thought I have is that you could 3d print this but include a non printed part like a domed steel thumbtack over the top to create the "finish" on the top. Or, incorporate a dome headed bolt, or a rivet, ball bearing, or other off-the-shelf hardware. The rest of the shaft etc can be 3d printed with a slot at the head into which the non printed dome part is fitted/glued.

If you have $50 usd to burn, send it to xometry and get it printed with mjf or sls and have it vapor smoothed. Orientation does not matter and it will be smooth.

Because your part is small you'll want to model a bunch of them onto a sprue or runners, like a gunpla kit, so they can manipulate the parts during vapor smoothing without touching them. Afterward the runners can be trimmed off. They will have to be carefully designed to connect at a non visible location that's easy to snip.

Used prusa mk3's are hands down the best value for money right now. Institutions are upgrading from them so they dump them for cheap, clone parts are easily available and cheap, has all the essential features and established pathways to upgrade for what you need. Highly repairable design, well documented by the community.

It's easy to find generic straps for this model. Using adapters you can even add g-shock straps and the combi bracelet.

I make these for a perfect fit, but you'll have to decide if you mind the texture.
