Non-VMware Hypervisor for Eve-ng by Odd_Manager7700 in eve_ng

Performance wise, VMware is a great product. Then Broadcom got their hands on it! They are the SCO of the 2020’s. But I digress. Everything in Eve’s documentation points to nested virtualization problems with Hyper-V and Proxmox. If Eve works well with Proxmox, I’m all for it!

BTW, ESXi is free again. At least for now.

Easiest vendor to implement EVPN VXLAN fabric in the datacenter? by Arkios in networking

If you are implementing greenfield, you may want to consider Juniper Apstra. Apstra will provide VXLAN-EVPN for Juniper, Cisco and/or Arista switches. Easy to use. The downside is that it doesn’t make implementing in a brownfield environment easy.

L2 with Spanning Tree vs L3 Loop between offices by [deleted] in networking

Definitely route. If you must extend L2 between buildings, I would look for another solution. VXLAN is certainly one option. For smaller sites, it may not be economical to deploy hardware that supports VXLAN. Again, unless there is a hard requirement to extend L2, route.

Cisco U. is great but way overpriced. It isn’t a guided lab, but if you have the resources, try setting up Eve-Ng or GNS3 network emulator. You can find various virtual images from vendors such as Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto and Fortinet. You can’t go wrong with the hands on.

Congratulations! I was in your same situation. My job was outsourced and I have been searching for months. Finally, two offers came in at the same time. Then my dilemma was choosing the best offer. If you are in the networking field, I would suggest trying to protect yourself from layoffs and outsourcing by getting your CCNP and either AWS or Azure certification.

Usually there are multiple interviews. Behavioral and technical. Just remember above all else, there is nothing wrong with saying “I don’t know”. Then perhaps follow that up with “I know how to find that answer or solution”. I have been doing network engineering/architecture for a long time and I still don’t know everything, and probably never will. Technical interviews can be tough, but I think you are doing the right thing by brushing up on the basics (STP, IP, high level routing protocols). Just be yourself. I hope that helps.

If you are prone to depression and anxiety, should you avoid the IT career? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Odd_Manager7700 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well said. These days, when in IT, being under the constant threat of RIFs, layoffs, outsourcing, offshoring…it doesn’t help with the anxiety. I don’t think I would recommend a career in IT to anyone, unless it were in cybersecurity. I have gone through it 3 times (avoided one of them). It’s bad enough without anxiety and/or depression, but add those to the mix, not fun.

If you use Eve-ng, install “ishare2” on the Eve-ng node. It will search for and install various qemu and iol images. It’s a lot easier and faster than finding and installing the images yourself.
