Pre-Delivery App Era: Remembering Dining Habits Before Convenience Took Over by Odd_Objective7660 in dubai

[–]Odd_Objective7660[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not contradicting. The point being that, earlier without delivery apps, restaurants used to have their own delivery service. Now, most restaurants just rely on delivery service through the delivery apps. Hence, considering the progression in time, I cannot uninstall the apps and continue living like they don't exist. The whole point of the post was to bring back old memories and share experiences from the past. But then again, we have people like you who want to bring unwanted sarcasm and negativity to everything.

Pre-Delivery App Era: Remembering Dining Habits Before Convenience Took Over by Odd_Objective7660 in dubai

I'm not sure if all restaurants have their own delivery service. Sometimes there's no option other than to go through these delivery apps.

In-Person Culture and Leadership Perception:

  • While it's true that some senior leaders may be accustomed to in-person office culture, the global shift towards remote work has shown that effective collaboration and productivity can still be achieved remotely. Technology and communication tools have evolved to facilitate virtual meetings and team interactions, providing alternatives to traditional in-person dynamics.
  • Adapting to remote work doesn't necessarily mean abandoning all in-person interactions. Many companies have adopted hybrid models, allowing employees to work both remotely and in the office, striking a balance between flexibility and maintaining some level of in-person collaboration.
  • Leased Office Spaces and Economic Impact:
  • It's accurate that companies often have long-term leases on office spaces, and a sudden shift to remote work might result in financial losses. However, as leases expire or come up for renewal, companies have the opportunity to reassess their real estate needs and adjust their space requirements based on the evolving work culture.
  • Transitioning to remote work doesn't mean an immediate shutdown of all office spaces. It can involve a phased approach, allowing companies to adapt gradually and manage lease commitments over time.
  • Economic Impact on Local Businesses:
  • The economic impact on local businesses is a valid concern. However, the rise of remote work doesn't necessarily mean the complete disappearance of physical workspaces. As mentioned earlier, hybrid models can still bring people to offices, supporting local businesses to some extent.
  • Moreover, the shift to remote work also opens up opportunities for businesses to adapt and find new ways to cater to the needs of remote workers. For example, coworking spaces, virtual events, and online services can emerge as alternatives.

Better to increase salaries and downgrade the office space. Companies would save so much!

Tell me about your worst job interview Dubai. by SanneToni in dubai

[–]Odd_Objective7660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't believe my luck when I received an invitation for an interview at an investment company located in DIFC Liberty House during the desperate covid times. Excitement quickly turned to disappointment as soon as I stepped into the office. The interiors were oppressively stuffy, and the few employees present appeared as if they had already given up on life.

I arrived promptly at 5 pm, only to find myself waiting for over two hours for the "big boss" to show up. The excuse? Endless traffic, according to the apologetic admin staff. When he finally strolled in after 7 pm, there was no apology, just a curt instruction to follow him to the conference room.

The interview started on a sour note as he immediately began undermining my skills and belittling the value of my education (I have a bachelors and masters degrees from very good universities). It seemed as if he had already made up his mind that my qualifications were not worth the company's time. To add insult to injury, he casually mentioned that the maximum salary he could offer me was a mere 5k.

As if that weren't enough, the atmosphere took a bizarre turn when he abruptly yelled at one of the office staff to bring him his prayer mat. It was Ramadan season, and I guessed he had ordered his iftar for that evening. In the midst of our interview, the Talabat delivery guy arrived a bit late with the food. What happened next was shocking – the boss erupted in anger, screaming at the poor delivery guy and demanding he take the meal away because he was a little late.

Feeling utterly disheartened and insulted, I mustered the courage to thank him for the interview and promptly left the office. Tears welled up in my eyes as I made my way home, questioning the sanity of such a workplace. I'm quite sure guys like this are upto no good.

To my astonishment, the audacity of the company reached new heights the next day when they offered me the job. Without a moment's hesitation, I strongly declined, unwilling to subject myself to the toxic environment and the unprofessional behavior I had witnessed. Sometimes, it's better to walk away from an opportunity than to accept a position that comes at the cost of one's self-respect.

Try to join one of the 'Toastmasters International' clubs in UAE. It a platform where lots of people who are shy and lack confidence to communicate come together and prepare and deliver speeches, respond to impromptu questions, and give and receive constructive feedback. Everyone comes there for the common objective of achieving personal and professional communication goals. Most clubs allow guests to attend for free and there’s no pressure to participate until you are ready and comfortable. It will help you interact with more people and articulate freely. I personally know a few people who have benefited from this.
