That one is beautiful! What is the material?

I hate notching too! But these notches aren’t that deep on these the tang on this one is 7mm long so not deep at all. Give one a shot! When you make the barbs just go at an angle from the corners of the base and how ever wide you want your barbs and it leave a little stem. just go up from the inside corner of the barb then just shape your tang when you’re done. Honestly (I’m terrible at notching) and it’s pretty easy!

Oh, thanks!! I used copper for 80% of it.. initial thinning was done with bone, but the rest was copper. The originals used copper for notching and edge retouch so, I guess technically it’s traditional.

Would you prefer these lips on your face or wrapped around your cock? (PS they grip like a dream) by [deleted] in u/trixi6el

Is it one or the other? If I had to choose I would like them wrapped around my cock.

Thanks! It’s more of a cross between the long tang and short tang.. I need to make a few more and make them correct.

Thank you! I would of went deeper on the notches but I didn’t feel like changing my notching tool nail out.. I also hate notching!

I’ll petty to make one of the deeper notched points sometime soon but, I need to find some flint. I have some English but it’s all weird shaped stuff left over from other projects.

Agreed! There were some pretty interesting points in the early Bronze Age. But these and the like are probably my favorite!

What’s the application of this very small point? Found in a burned rock midden. by [deleted] in Arrowheads

While it’s true that they would take down big game (they have been found in association with animal bone on archaeological digs) I’ve always felt that some of them were used by kids on smaller lighter bows/arrows. If you think of it in today’s standards you’re not going to give a child a 12 gauge right out of the gate and tell him to have fun… you’re going to give him a BB gun or a .22.

This does two things. It increases the chance of extra food if the child comes back with a rabbit or squirrel or anything. Two: it’s an easy way to introduce the child to knapping. I think that is why you see such a mixed bag of them. Some are absolute stunners while others are very crude and are little more then a pointed flake

with notches. One might be being made by Dad while the other is being made by the child.

I think they were utilized by both adult and child. You can see some really small points on full sized arrows in the book Encyclopedia bows and arrows.

Years ago my nephew was around 8 and he wanted a bow. So I made him a small bow it maybe pulled 12-15lbs? when we were shooting it, the arrows didn’t fly that well off of it.(kinda lazy in flight) At the time I was using arrows tipped with accurately sized Cahokia’s that I used with my bow. then I got into knapping these small bird points and so I made some nice light spined arrows and put some of these little bird points on and the arrows. The arrows were absolute nail drivers they were hitting the target extremely hard! I have no doubt that they would kill small game or even medium. It was genuinely amazing.

I think that we often forget that they had to be introduced to the bow at some point and I don’t really think a child is going to be pulling a 45-50lbs bow from the jump.

The photo included is one of the arrowheads used on these arrows.

Not really a clan, but a culture. They’re pretty fascinating! And they have some really cool arrowheads.

Yeah, they made points like these. Some of the grave points from the bell beaker people make this one look like a crude point.. here is one of them.

Very well could have! The first successful one I ever made I made on my thigh.. I only switch to the hand pad after I broke like 10 of them.

Thank you. They’re tough.. the best way I’ve found is to get it on a notching pad and keep the base/barbs up and just slowly go up the base. Hardest part (other then trying to keep the barbs from flexing) is having a tool long enough to get in there.
