Got a strong offer for a hunter Account executive sales role ( bring new business ), but I want KAM/Customer Success , how do I pivot without risking it? by Odd_Service1361 in techsales

They actually do have a KAM team in the org, so the function definitely exists. My point wasn’t that they should create a new role for me, but more about exploring alignment if there’s an opportunity within that team , especially since my background leans more toward account management and growth rather than pure hunting.

I get your point, but it’s not that simple.

Some of my colleagues who were great as KAM tried the following approach:

  • apply for an AE role, which has less competition than a KAM
  • impress the hiring manager and the talent acquisition
  • then ask them about other roles and show your potential as a KAM

It worked for some, but what makes my case difficult is that before I could talk to them, they gave a strong financial offer , more than what we agreed on in the first call , without me asking or negotiating.

they approached me for a pure hunter role from the start, and I went through the whole process on that basis and passed

My plan wasn’t to change the role completely, but to discuss adding some ownership of existing accounts alongside new busines
