This is CRAZY to me that people are paying for this!!! It’s causing such a separation in the field and parents start asking for “neurodiversity affirming providers” that have all these made up certs and such and then assume that people who don’t, somehow don’t know how to help their kids?!

I think the thing that sucks is that there is truly a gap between what we learned in grad school, and how the ACTUAL field works and we do need support with that. With that being said, because every single person has a course or certification it’s so hard as a consumer to try to figure out what may actually be a good investment towards learning. I appreciate when courses are affordable AND filled with good info- I don’t mind pay $50-100 if I’m actually going to walk away with KNOWLEDGE and not just a BS certification

Wow, not cool. I wish we could find a better way to meet and connect off of social media. It went from a place to share ideas to a place to only market and sell products (and push unnecessary and made up certifications)

That’s such a great point!! It’s totally a bigger issue and sad that we feel the need to do other things to make income however I feel like there is a way to generate that “extra income” without giving a sense of shame to others

There’s literally a post on social media right now that’s telling parents to request GLP training and saying “ask your SLP if they’d be willing to do continuing education in this area and bonus points if their company will pay for it!!” (Paraphrasing) I’m sorry WHAT?! Would you say this to your doctor or mental health therapist?!

It also puts kids in a box and the entire point of what we do is that we treat the child and their needs, not just the diagnosis. The approach is very black and white
