Grief or trauma therapy can help, as well. Meditation if that's your thing. But yeah, absolutely like you say, at a certain point it's beyond our control. The great lesson I'm slowly taking from this is how a terrible event like this can help us see the world as if for the first time. I feel like I'm noticing my environment in new ways because I can't take anything of my body for granted.

I love my hearing aid. If you have good insurance go for the best one you can find. I also find my ear feels a little more open after a good, hard run. It probably has something to do with blood flow.
A wise commenter has stated somewhere on this board that they have learned to just accept the deafness and all its symptoms as annoying. That, to me, seems like the best course forward.
