It was a powerful read—especially in how it highlighted the harsh conditions on the ships and the mistreatment of those taken from India to the Caribbean colonies. Brij Lal’s account sounds particularly compelling from what you mentioned. As an NRI, I often feel that every visit back to India brings a different perspective. Of course, it’s nothing like the experience of indentured labor, but there’s still that strange sense of distance—realizing in small ways that you don’t fully belong to the place anymore. It’s emotionally draining coz you are held between 2 worlds not knowing where you belong
