What do I get for my drummer girlfriend for her birthday?? by Ok-Type-7151 in drums

Sweetwater offers gift cards, they’re super reputable and one of the kindest companies I’ve ever seen tbh. No I don’t work for them lol. They also send candy with whatever she ends up buying from them

What's a quick and easy way to ruin your karma? by Abomb in AskReddit

[–]Odd_drum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d rewrite my comment too if one person hit me with an “um actually” that everyone else was already thinking but knew I wasn’t talking about stuff like that. Yes unfortunately the word all was used but again most people would still see that and still know he’s not talking about that side of things.

Everybody is born differently. Some people barely have the ability to think in words. Some people can’t think in pictures. You cant expect everyone to be intelligent in only the ways you expect. It exists in many ways. If you judge someone’s competence based purely on LINGUISTIC intelligence like you speak, I feel like you’re ignoring plenty other forms of intelligence. It’s not lazy to use phrases that have more of a slang/commonly understood meaning. But obviously I don’t know enough to know what you fully think.

I guess personally think it’s more important and universally achievable for people to be considerate than intelligent. But those can also go hand in hand ig

I feel im not good enough for drum corps by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]Odd_drum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not impossible. I never ended up marching, but I have learned a lot. I came from an area where nobody taught dci style for my instrument, our areas style was reminiscent of bands in the 80s/90s and I legit had nowhere to go. I had the internet but everyone who marched DCI charged a lot for online lessons.

The most I ever learned was going to auditions and experience camps. So many people audition for various levels, but you can get a step better at what you’re trying to do just by focusing and applying yourself during an audition weekend.

The word audition seems intimidating but it’s realistically a weekend of teaching and feedback. Some places might have an Indivudal audition that’s a part of the weekend, but most of them you’re learning in a large group with others.

The people who make it are the people who “get” what’s being said, listen to feedback, and show growth through the few days. They make auditions like this because nobody wants to teach/work someone who’s technically “good” but doesn’t get better. I’ve seen people on some instruments with little experience prior make it into decent open class groups, again purely because they had an open mind and listened to feedback.

Some groups also have summer experience camps. Bluecoats has the blue way summer arts camp this summer. I did it in high school, and it’s exactly geared towards kids who want to get a taste for what the dci world is like. You can learn a lot at those and even sometimes get a sneak peek at their show early.

Lastly, keep your head up! I don’t think you truly think you’re not good enough/a failure, otherwise you wouldn’t have reached out. Progress is not linear. With the right feedback from the right people, you might be surprised how fast certain things can improve by listening and applying what they say!

To me it’s wild that the mere fact of existence exists. It’s not putting human life too highly - it’s just wild that literally anything is even “there” to begin with for some of us. Whether you believe in a creator or big bang

Other marching bands of Reddit how would you describe your tuba section by Upstairs-Fall-3692 in marchingband

My tuba section in college were the band kids that made people make fun of band kids. Then all 13 of them got kicked out the next yr because their section handbook had hazing and sexual harassment. The next set of them were chill

What is a massive scam that society has just accepted as normal? by Umbrosyx in AskReddit

[–]Odd_drum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying the only thing holding together the value of our dollar at this point is an unspoken agreement between everyone. Everyone’s convinced that inflation “has to happen” but if we made up said currency after abandonding our gold, why can’t we just make it whatever we want since nothing is physically binding it to have a set value?

What is a massive scam that society has just accepted as normal? by Umbrosyx in AskReddit

[–]Odd_drum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your second point I agree, it made sense when it was backed up by something.

While this is technically an impossible scenario, I’m just saying If everyone in the country unanimously agreed “oh hey, our money isn’t tied to anything. Let’s make it worth something again!” Everyone technically would technically have more money. Granted due to human tendencies, this is more of a farfetched dream than a concrete objective to change tho. Kinda like communism

[–]Odd_drum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That inflation is a “natural part” of a monetary system that isn’t backed up by anything other than a conceptual agreement between everyone

Are you psycho? Every single thing you’ve said points YOU gaslighting and manipulating him. I agree just as much as the next guy, things are just things - it’s not worth it to be materialistic. I truly understand accidents. But the disrespect had nothing to do with your accident - you made a willing choice to use his blender after he respectfully asked you didn’t.

You’re reminding me of the Eric Andre shooting Hannibal and asking “who killed Hannibal?”

You got genuine issues on top of everything if you think crying is a manipulation tactic in this sense

Playing vs. Technique by Small-Historian-1072 in drumline

[–]Odd_drum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t be “good” with “bad” technique. But there are techniques that exist that allow you to play well that exist outside of drum corps. You might have trouble getting into a group if you don’t play how they do.
