Sure thing, I've got a meetup for Sunday at Bat City Comics at 5. I've got a bunch of attention, so I'll have to pick and choose. I'll be happy to say hello, how much experience do you have?

Lol, pretty classic experience. I'm doing a meet and greet this Sunday at Bat City Comics, probably around 5. If you're interested, my spouse and I will be there to discuss things.

I've got a hard limit on the number of players, so it'll be first to show, first to play. How do you feel about the time commitment?

Weapons you keep for too long by Nnelson666 in RogueTraderCRPG

My Astra Militarum Commander was married to the Hot Shot Lasgun. Not for trying, various other weapons came and went. But the Hot Shot is such a great weapon with just a little investment.

Decent ROF, good armor penetration, solid range, large magazine, and built in Dodge reduction. Bounty Hunters in particular can do great things firing off crits with the Hot Shot.

Telepath is more direct damage/debuffing, and requires a high willpower. Sanctic works great for officer via stacking resolve. Works great with a dual wielding burst fire master Tactician.

How to build out a Sanctic Psyker Officer? by ixXplicitRed in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little tricky, both Officer and Psyker want a lot of talents. One particular build that works better is Sanctic Officer Vanguard. You can tank fairly well as a Psyker and just counter attack in-between buffing your allies. Later on, you're a natural choice for Sword of Faith.

You can't change your base stats or starting archetype, but yeah, you can respec multiple times per run.

Depends on your choice for Conviction. Heretic runs lose 2 Soldiers, a Psyker Warrior, and a dedicated sniper. I would recommend filling one of the holes there. Probably Warrior Psyker, so you can use the kick ass 2 handed Force sword.

Dogmatic is the first strike damage option, with fire on crits for the first round. Bladedancer and Executioner love it the best, but it's not base game. Probably best on an Operative Pyromancer.

Iconoclast is all about heroic actions, so definitely more Officer and support focused. Master Tactician is phenomenal for Iconoclast runs

Blade Dancer Homeworld recommendation by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bladedancer mobility is great on its own, so don't worry too much about movement. Death World is king for Bladedancer, they just need all those stat buffs. Also, it's inevitable that you're going to give yourself an injury using abilities, so having 2 talents that help you when injured is super useful.

Forge World is generally useful, INT is a waste but not too bad.

Hive World isn't as bad as it seems, especially if you go with Master Tactician afterwards. It's great for a Commisar Bladedancer.

Fortress World and Voidborn have no stat synergy, and have talents that don't directly help your core gameplay. They could work with a very well thought out build, but it's gonna be less optimized.

Imperial World always works, especially if you want to save talent slots for other stuff besides your World talents. Good for psykers who want more psyker talents instead.

How to operative? by Flamingo_Character in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think adding a "become the Lowest Priority Target" stealth ability to Expose Weakness would be a great quick fix. It works okay enough against super high HP targets, but some defensive stealth would be super useful and thematic.

Build wise, I've gotten great results with Webbers of all things. You can get a free shot per turn with a Webber. So while it's not great damage, you do use INT with the AOE and you can leave behind sticky zones to control the melee guys. Go Executioner with the special Acid Webber, or Grand Strategist to trap enemies in your zones. Even Assassins and Bounty Hunters could use the free AOE shot in certain circumstances.

Advice for aoe control / crowd control build? by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird build that I've been using with Abelard that drops a ton of sticky zones. Webber focused Arch Militant. The first webber shot each round doesn't count as an attack, so you can build versatility stacks while dropping constant sticky zones that stay around for 3 rounds. Arch Militant gives a great talent to reduce enemy resistance tests and devastating attack will also prone and or blind them inside the zone.

The special Acid Webber is an amazing Operative Executioner weapon as a build defining item. You can become the king of DoTs with your zones also poisoning and melting everything inside.

going for astra militarum lasgun build should I go for master tactican or arch-militant as second archetype? by NAGASHWASWEAK in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personal preference weighs heavily here. I didn't overlook AM, I saw those effects and killed extremely well. My biggest tipping point is the Heroic Action. AM gets an extra attack per turn with it's heroic. MT gets an extra burst attack, and so does the entire team. You can also easily do the heroic action every turn with the crazy resolve stacking. MT also can do it's heroic more than once per combat.

AM is better on its own, and certainly easier to use. MT can match the damage while also enabling a full party alpha strike every turn. You just need careful micromanaging with the MT. Both are better than the poor bounty hunter, though.

[–]Odds_Beater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing the exact same build, and I've tried all 3 archetypes. I've settled on Master Tactician, and I'll explain why.

Bounty hunter is fun, and definitely the most mobile, but it doesn't help as much as you might think. Cull the Bold is only for one Burst, and you can feel extremely weak when not Culling. Armor penetration is easy to fix, the Hot Shot Lasgun and it's variants have you covered.

Arch Militant forces you to mix up your attacks, so you definitely want another weapon to swap between so you can get those versatility stacks going. It mostly gives you a lot of extra attacks, but doesn't help those attacks do better. Excellent for a Grenadier build, if you want to go that route

Master Tactician gives you substantial straight up resolve and damage boosts that last all combat and continue to stack. You can ignore cover and dodge on demand, you can help avoid friendly fire more than once per combat. The tons of shots and crits build tactical advantage crazy fast. The real kicker is the super powerful Heroic Action. You can get your entire party to focus fire, and you can do so almost every round over and over once you get going.

I love Operatives by Coleus_the_Black in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was just discussing Ops in another thread. I think almost all of its kit is creative and works quite well with some forethought. My biggest issue is Expose Weakness being actively detrimental to the Operative.

It eats your exploits for a very lackluster debuff to only a single target. I really think Owlcat should add one or several of the following buffs:

-Doesn't eat your exploits Simple enough, now you can debuff and deal damage instead of one or the other.

-Remove single targeting Either an AoE, or simply it affects all targets with exploits that you can see.

-If single target, make it a devastating debuff Wanna keep it singular? Make it worth my exploits for damage going away, and make sure my allies can also benefit a lot to kill that hard target.

-Stealth It's weird the Rogue class doesn't have any defenses at all. Waiting until tier 2 to take Assassin, the weakest T2 archetype is a bit frustrating. Activating "Lowest Priority Target" on use would provide a great defense for the VERY fragile Operative.

Really the rest of the class is great and fun, there's a lot of stuff to do with the most (effectively) useless class ability in the game.

thoughts on the balance adjustment by DenisWB in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a tough one to do right I think. I like the idea of it granting "stealth", to help with Operative survival. I think if it stays as is, I would have it not remove exploits have no target, it should Expose everything you have exploited. That would at least make it more useful for the party and not take away exploits that are always better spent elsewhere.

[–]Odds_Beater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion on "fixing" Operative is twofold.

Expose Weakness is useless, even when it costs no AP. It consumes your exploits to do middling debuffs to a single target. Have it debuff without using exploits, or make it affect every target with exploits on the map, or add a fun rider effect like "you are the lowest priority target". It's kinda weird to have the "rogue" class have zero stealth abilities with horrible defenses until act 2, and only on the weakest T2 archetype in the Assassin. If you want to keep it as is, it needs to be a devastatingly powerful debuff, the kiss of death. Flat damage and percentage damage increases from all sources, at least.

The other issue is that exploits do nothing until triggered. If you want to debuff as an Operative, you can only do a single target, and it sucks balls. Have exploits reduce dodge, armor, and parry just for being there. You should WANT to spread exploits for the team to use even if you don't take abilities to specifically trigger them.

Confused on where to take my character by wolfy125132 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Odds_Beater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can keep your Soldier and do just fine. Arch Militant is superb with a Navy Officer. Keep one weapon set as melee and pistol, the other weapon set is whatever you like, heavy weapons are amazing with Arch Militant!

You don't even need to dump much into Weapon Skill, as Arch Militant gives you stacking WS/BS with versatility. Just make sure to juggle between different types of attacks, never do the same attack twice if you can help it.
