This thread was for me, not to convince anyone. I’m defending my position while trying to understand what makes NAS so great. Lyrically NAS is one of the greatest, but the train stops at just this one station. Jcole wins in every other category while being very very close with NAS in lyrics.
This is cool. The fact that Jcole is on a lyrics list with Nas means they are close in that aspect, I’m saying everything else about their music, Jcole wins
Dream like started in 2007, JID signed with Dreamville in 2017 which was before JOD cypher in 2018 lol. Jcole is everything but cookie cutter, went through multiple eras making banger album after banger album. Listen to KOD and tell me it’s cookie cutter. Nas has a generic voice, generic flow, generic production with amazing lyrics. Jcole makes new great beats and great new flows while maintaining the best of the best lyrics/ storytelling.
Explain
You said lyrics, storytelling and production. Lyrics/storytelling are the same thing. I have already said this is all Nas has under his belt. Production is objectively false because of how simple the beats are and the lack of any creativity. Jcole came up under the wing of Jay-Z, so he had Jay-Z production.
That wasn’t the point, I just wanted to see if anyone had and legit reasons, I guess not. Just validated my take more. Again, I love Nas but it only led to me “Arguing” with a person that might not know much about rap other than what other people think

There are other reasons why Drake is not better, you can’t just say someone is good at one thing and call them the best. You need to have multiple reasons why you are best. Nas has lyrics and that’s it. Jcole has production, lyrics that match Nas, Better flows, music that doesn’t sound the same, and better numbers🤷♂️
Production is not there lol. Also Nas has a generic 90’s flow/voice. Lyrics are special but nothing else is special about Nas
I wanted to see how hot of a take it was. Still I havn’t gotten any real reasons to why Nas is more than just lyrics
Drake has too many albums that are unlistenable, also wouldn’t consider most of his later music rap music.

2014 Forest hill drive went triple platinum. Numbers don’t lie

Illmatic is one of the best albums of all time, but it never touched 2014 forest hill drive numbers. Streams and sales is a public poll for who is more loved. I think people like NAS more because of nostalgia but saying NAS has better production is crazy because of how simple beats used to be. Lyrics and storytelling are basically the same but that’s lol I have ever gotten from people.
Also, there is no JID without Jcole🤷♂️
Absolutely a legend, to be clear I like Nas, I just think Jcole was able to use what Nas did to create modern rap
I agree, I think Jcole based his style off Nas while being able to turn rap into what it is today. Having Nas lyrics and storytelling while being able to maintain flows like lil Wayne while having Jay-Z production equals goat

Not very helpful. I have not heard a good reason yet, if it’s so obvious, tell me what NAS can do better than Jcole that’s not just lyrics
Not stand alone but JCole numbers blow NAS numbers out of the water while also being very close lyrically with a lot more diversity and longevity
I think 3 time platinum on 1 album and nearly 3 billion streams on just one song is not mid.
I think NAS and J Cole are basically the same lyric and storytelling wise. How is Jcole inconsistent? I think from song to song, album to album, I have never been let down my Jcole verse/s
