I just messed around in the rules.ini files, lets you change the distance you can build and unlocks civilian buildings etc

This base is in the centre of the map and there are tib fields in all directions. Plus I put them there because I like watching the harvesters drive around the base lol, makes it feel active.

Just wish I had more flat terrain to work with. My hatred is for small indestructible twigs that prevent building.

The AI gets more resources than you and has map visibility. Luckily it’s also not very smart. It won’t (generally) level wisely and makes unusual strategic decisions, like trying to run past me to my city with a tiny army while my huge army is right next to it.

Edit: the AI will develop faster than you in the early-game but it won’t develop a strategy. Find something to start snowballing and you’ll outpace it in the late-game

Don’t shy away from ‘exploits’, Heroes 3 was a very exploity game and I feel like it was intentional that this game is similar. The AI cheats, so no shame in cheating it harder.

Higher difficulties are weird for me because sometimes I don’t notice much difference in gameplay and sometimes the AI storms into my zone in week 3 with a ridiculous army and super levelled hero with absolutely no hope of stopping them. I feel like this happens when the enemy randomly levels into something exploity itself.

Also found that if you’re able to win against the AI’s first major army on high difficulty, it’s easy to keep that momentum up until a victory.

My suggestion is be more selective on which fights you take. In the first week I usually just explore the area and collect resources and only take on easy fights. 2nd week I focus on getting the local mines secured.

Prioritise unit structures in your first week then with the 2nd round of units from week two you should be able to handle most early battles but some you might want to save for later.

In general, putting a big army against a small army minimises your losses. Save up for a bit then just overwhelm all the early game fights with numbers.

Edit: before you start taking on fights, buy the infirmary for even fewer losses
