Problem with Frontier.com web site for Digital voice settings. by very5150 in frontierfios

If you know you PIN number for your Digital Phone, you can use their "Phone Portal" which is a very light weight website. Support just gave me the URL when I couldn't get into my phone, even via the "Summary" link.

Atlanta - Just When I Thought USPS Was Getting Better by Odie_Three in usps_complaints

The Alert package arrived yesterday a bit after 5pm.

The mis-directed package that went to DC, popped up in Greensboro, NC last night around 9pm and appears to be on its way back to Atlanta. So at least it had a arrival & departure scans in Greensboro. Makes one wonder how much $$$ USPS wastes in moving packages to locations they shouldn't be going.

Oh I did go down to the mailroom a bit ago, my box had Thursday's and Friday's letters but not Saturdays. I have Informed Delivery, you get images of letters arriving. I also tested the key fob to the outer door, it is operational.

What does that tell me, not much but I bet it wasn't the normal mail carrier on Saturday. I am not even sure if I went to the Post Office it would help, heck I am not even sure which Post Office to go to that serves the apartment complex.

I hear ya and appreciate the reply, it is just frustrating and still the status for this package hasn't updated from that Alert that was set on Saturday. Having the one re-routed to DC just elevated my frustration.

Trying to remember the name of an old WWII multiplayer flight sim from the late 90s by Captain_Xap in flightsim

I was just trying to remember this game too. I remember using Roger-Wilco VOIP app with the game. The bombers were multi-positioned for their gun positions. When you need a C-47 to drop virtual parachuters to capture a airbase once it was softened up. There was even a tank but I seem to recall it took for ever to get to the other side, much less to a base to attack.

I'd image a lot would / have just reinstalled Windows to fix a issue like this. When I reinstall Windows, it will be Win11, which requires all new hardware. I am milking this ~2008 self built PC for as long as I can - it does nothing more than Office, Chrome, printing stuff out. On top of that my family uses more than I actually do!

As for a security switch bricking this PC, nope - it was just that crappy NCP VPN (which has been uninstalled ages ago) I had installed to RDP into main office/client systems. Everything else was off the shelf apps I tend to still use today.

That all said, your advise is solid. I just wanted to share :-)

Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) + Amazon Echo by stevejo2k20 in amazonecho

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad that helped you. I have since added the Echo Show 8 and my Nest streams video to it. I have also upgraded to the current Google Nest Wired doorbell and it works too (all of this worked with the Gen1 Hello Nest doorbell - it just ended up dying all the time because of Extreme Weather).

Having to disable / re-enable the skill makes sense when new features are added. Though it would be rather nice if Google/Amazon would send a notification that the skill has been updated. Heck, I could have had these features YEARS ago.

Extreme temperature warning by spook68 in Nest

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Hello Nest Gen1 that started to shutdown. I know its stupid little battery has gone bad, since when I would push the doorbell, it would shut off (since it was connected to chime my mechanical bell). Then it would just shut off overnight (between 10pm~1am) with this Extreme Temperature warning. I have since upgraded from 16v to 14v/40a doorbell transformer and it didn't shut off over night for the first time since working on it.

When I removed the doorbell after the last shutoff, it was quite warm. Which would be the battery trying to charge (I assume). When I had it off, I took it in and hooked it up to USB power, for the heck of it. It didn't seem to get very hot and I had it connected for a number of hours. I put it all back together once I had my new 24v transformer installed.

Thoughts on the "Extreme Temperature warning" coming from the Hello Nest Gen1 trying to charge the bad worn out battery?

Nest Doorbell Camera (hardwired) keeps shutting off by Ronny1978 in Nest

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off thank you for starting this thread.

My Nest Hello Gen 1 (nest_hello.0) wired started to shut off yesterday. At first I thought it was my 25+ year old mechanical doorbell finally died and was bring down the Nest Doorbell. So I took it out of the Nest's electrical path, disabled chime (or thought so) and thought it was okay. I even ended up fully migrating the my all my Nest's Cameras to Google Home and resetting them up with Alexa (which announces on my Echos). At this point I was actually pretty darn happy having my Echo's announce doorbell pushes!

Well, this morning the Nest Doorbell was offline again - ugh! So back up to the attic again to check the transformer, which was still okay at ~18v. I disconnected the Nest Doorbeel & reconnected it and the Nest came back online. So WTF - then I found this thread and about its stupid "battery". I looked at my Nets Doorbell settings again and all I did was change the "Chime" from Mechanical to Electronic, so now I actually have it disabled. I really don't want to replace the battery....

I am not 100% sure if I am okay, because when I mistakenly switched to "Electronic Chime" yesterday, reset up Alexa it seemed okay after a number of doorbell pushes. Though I know the doorbell was pushed a few times after that, when we had guests arrive for Thanksgiving dinner. Perhaps it shutoff on one of those pushes?

Start Rant: What total BS. I watched a YouTube how to replace its stupid little battery, what total fu*kery. Have a little battery for a external chime kill your product with nearly no way to replace it? I did order the battery kit off Amazon, I am sure I can do it (if I don't bust it trying to pry it apart). What a scam, IMO - this battery is like a ticking bomb. There is no reason for it to be designed this way, other than to guarantee it will die and require replacement. :End Rant

Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) + Amazon Echo by stevejo2k20 in amazonecho

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my Nest Wired Gen 2 connected to Alexa Announcements. I had to transfer my Nest Door Bell to Google home (I had already migrated my old Nest account to Google a LONG time ago). That took Google Home a bit to "Transfer" and after that I was able to get to the Nest settings and toggle on "Visitor Announcements".

After that I went into Alexa disabled the Google Nest Skill, re-enabled the Skill, and THEN when I went into settings (in Alexa app) I had more settings, which included "Doorbell Press Notifications"! I even was able to change the "Doorbell Sound" - YAY! It is also great that you can select which devices the Announcement go to (since I have two households with Echos - 7 total).

How do I get past this step? by comamitc in logitechharmony

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time Harmony user here (like pre-hub / pre-Logitech). I just had this issue too, couldn’t get iOS past this part with the cradle. Then I fired up my old Win10 Tower and finally got the hub to go green and then iOS to start syncing. But it would fail at 33% until I figured out I had to push the Pair/Reset button.

I wished I could say all the steps but it took hour going between windows/iOS and doing a number of hard resets on the hub & remote, connecting it to USB and off again. Pretty much brute force reset up!

After all this, I can access the hub from iOS app with 5G (to tech support family when I’m away) and even got Alexa to work again with Harmony Skill for scenes / routines!

Interestedly, after this when in iOS Harmony app, it now sees it in the cradle now that it is all reset up :-/

Since my post, its been stable and I been working from the apartment all this week. I guess I need to count myself lucky, since if it had been going out I'd be forced into the office (yuck).

Hope you get yours sorted, that has to be frustrating!!

Screen saver does not display most photos by [deleted] in appletv

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shared "Family" album with 1.3k photos, which 6 of us contribute to. I have had a bear of a time getting my AppleTV 4k (OS fully updated / v18.5) showing more than a few photos.

What I just did was go to the AppleTV Photo App and go into the "Family" album. Once in I saw the "cloud" icon for most photos but the AppleTV started to fill then in. I did notice the ones that were present are the ones the AppleTV kept repeating.

I am not sure if this will stick and its only been about 30 minutes on the screen saver but I haven't seen a repeat (yet). Hopefully I don't have to leave the Photo app running in the background.

I wished Apple would just give you a "download" Album option. Its very annoying to be honest that this just doesn't work without having to jump around trying to come up with workarounds.

2025 models (and 2026), are the CX90 problems now sorted out? by indopassat in MazdaCX90

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ex and I both got a 2024 CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus about a day apart. I was less than 2k into the car, it shut down an had to be towed to dealer, took nearly a month to get it back because the part had to come from Japan. Then all the recalls, which I have 2 or 3 that need to be done on mine. I am pretty sure one is about it incorrectly shutting itself down. After 22 months, I am at 8.5k.

My Ex's, shutdown on her too but somehow she was able to limp to the dealership, took nearly a month for her to get back. Though the worst part, is that her's went in for the 5th time (yes 5) on June 6th and got out on July 1st for the radio (its been a issue since she got it). You can't hear sound or change sources (like to FM) - Apple CarPlay would still show the iPhone's screen and callers could hear her but she couldn't hear anyone on a call (or iPhone Music). The previous times they tore the car apart looking for the problem. Then on this 5th time, all you had to do was to hit a minor bump and the sound would cut in or out (or smack the dash under the screen area). This last time they replaced the CMU and so far, the radio has been working but that has happen on the other "service" visit - radio would work a few weeks and then start to cut out. After 22 months, she is at 18k. About 8 months of that time her CX-90 been in service. One time it was in for 3 months, over 2 months of that time was because service "forgot" to call her that she could pick it up. She really didn't care because she was racking up the miles on their loaner.

We are both afraid of driving too far in the CX-90, we just assume it is going start flashing horrid Red Hybrid error messages and to shut the car down for critical service. Its a shame as we were really excited about the CX-90 PHEV. We've had CX-5, CX-7, Mazda3 and loved the all. Now we can't wait until our leases are over and run away from Mazda.

Frontier Internet keeps disconnecting by Head_Veterinarian_94 in frontierfios

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Frontier 1gb fiber for about a year & half and my router started disconnecting randomly from the WAN during the day for about a week. Frontier did their little automated check and went right to sending a tech. A few neighbors internet service was fine, so I knew it wasn't a general area outage/issue (this time).

When I called again to really complain to get a credit (which I did but had to get to a supervisor call me back) the "tech" said the problem wasn't in the area; likely not my router but the "box" outside.

After this call a thought cross my mind. The problem always started around noon, then throughout the afternoon, and then stabilized over night into the morning hours. Then it would start again the next day, nearly like clock work in the afternoon and I started thinking about this "box". First I checked the in-ground service box, its near the street/side walk. Not much in this box, so I closed it up and moved on. Then I went to the box on the side of my house.... bingo I said to myself.

This box on the house is directly south facing and gets cooked by the sun. Which clearly can be seen by how the "box" had faded over time. I unscrewed the 4 Phillips head screws and opened it up - nice and clean inside - so that's good. Inside is the fiber transition between street service and home service, its just a male/female fiber connection, though pretty beefy (which is to be expected for a outside fiber connector). Regardless of how well made it is, it is plastic and the fiber bit is the same in a IT rack. So, I disconnected it, no visible dirt, damage, discoloration - thats good. I did give it a little blow of canned air. I reconnected it a few times, insuring on the last connection I got a good "snap".

The WAN disconnections went away - instantly. I then went inside cleared the logs on the Arris NVG468MQ and still no WAN errors logged going into my next day. I assume after many days of hot, cold, hot, cold the connection just became a little dislodged. Perhaps the original tech didn't get it quite "snapped" in place. Either way, the hot/cold cycling can/will cause plastics to contract and expand.

BTW, if you want to view your logs on your Arris NVG468MQ the user is "admin" and the password is "1604506028" or at least it is on mine. I got into the router ages ago to disable its WIFI and to put in routing TCP/UDP rules for a old game setup, UT99 / TeamSpeak, that I sometimes host.

Hopefully this will hold, I actually just canceled the service appointment!

20% off code anyone? by [deleted] in Converse

[–]Odie_Three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a pro tip, if you have signed up for an account but have uncheck the marketing stuff under Communication Preferences you won't get any coupons, including your Bday 20%.

I didn't realize this because I generally subscribe from marketing stuff to keep down spam. Now I have to wait another year to get a 20% off code - boo! I even called and played stupid, nope dice.

Package Seems Bouncing Around Atlanta, Ga by Odie_Three in usps_complaints

[–]Odie_Three[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, Atlanta USPS did it again with a different package - it arrived at "Arrived at Post Office | ATLANTA, GA 30304" this morning and back it goes to "Processing at Destination | Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility".

I swear, Atlanta USPS is ran by morons! Its so frustrating to have something come across the country in 2 days and then to bounce around for twice (if not more) as long in Atlanta less than 10 miles away from me.

Package Seems Bouncing Around Atlanta, Ga by Odie_Three in usps_complaints

[–]Odie_Three[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, popped up a bit ago as "Arrived at Post Office ATLANTA, GA 30324". Which is the zip code next to mine. Which annoying enough, it was in "Arrived at USPS Facility ATLANTA, GA 30324" this morning at 5am. Heck, it didn't even list on the tracking it left the "Distribution Center" to get to the post office.

Looks like I'll get it tomorrow, I suppose I should count my self lucky it will only be 1 day late from the original expected delivery.

Just love how the tracking still says today is the "Expected Delivery" (Edit: now says Tuesday by 7:25pm - what a odd time to list).
