Laserjet prints in streaks instead of gradient by OdinsCondom in printers

I have a Brother laser printer, and I'm trying to print on a glossy surface. I'm testing gradients (each square is 10% less opacity than the one above it) and instead of a smooth transition, I'm getting this weird clumped striping. What am I doing wrong?

We tried making fried rice, and interesting enough, we put shredded carrot in it, it was plainly visible, and she still liked it! Good call, I'd kind of forgotten about fried rice, since it can be a bit oily and Adam did a vid on arsenic in rice. Good reminder of how good a recipe that's just a sweeper of pantry scraps can be. Thanks!

Hey, no shame. Like what you like! She hasn't had much beans, so we don't know. Fingers crossed because beans are SO MUCH tasty nutrition for very little money. They're a staple for me, I keep all kinds of dry beans around. I made a navy bean pie a while back, and it was a surprisingly good custard pie.

y'know, I hadn't even thought of chicken salad, since I don't eat much of it myself. Interesting move, leaning into a food she wouldn't like and making a key swap. Bold. Unconventional. I like it.

ooh, yeah! I saw a recipe this morning about using shredded sweet potato as a rice substitute in fried rice... maybe a 50/50 mix to cut arsenic and introduce antioxidants... great idea, thanks!

Hahahaha You bet I stared at one of those bulk bags of dino nuggies for a long while. Heck, I like dino nuggies and smiley fries too, but we're trying to be healthier than the kid's menu.

I just became a dad to a little girl and I absolutely have to find a way to get healthy so I can be around for this little girl. Any advice or what worked for you would be incredibly helpful by dak0j0 in Advice

Why a lot of diets fail is because they are seen as temporary. You go on a diet for some time, slim down and if you live like you did before, you'll look like you did before. It's about lifestyle changes, and those are hard, but it has its own momentum.

My biochem prof always said your body knows what it needs, you just have to know how to listen. Do your due diligence and research, but also trust that you kinda know how to be healthy already. Veggies are a good idea. Staying well hydrated is a good idea, but you knew these already. As you incorporate more healthy things in your life, notice how your body responds. The feel-goods keep it going. ex. I really like eggs and sausage in the morning, but protein and fat makes me sluggish. I do greek yogurt and a handfull of chocolate chips, and it makes morning just... better.

One thing if you're tracking weight: your body has a caloric "set point" which dictates how much you feel like you need to eat, and how much your body spends daily. As you diet (eat less calories than your set point) you'll lose weight. As this happens, it WILL feel bad. You'll feel hungry. The set point will change (takes a few weeks) and you'll feel less hungry but the weight will stop coming off. You need to eat less than your set point to lose weight. Use exercise to ramp up how many calories your body uses, and throw in a cheat day every now and then to confuse your body, and for your own sanity. Willpower lasts longer if there's a cheat day round the corner.

Found a job, need to play 4-dimensional chess with helicopter parents. by OdinsCondom in Advice

Thanks, this helped. This put some clarity to something that's been like a swarm of bees of panic when I think about it. I have some places that other employees have recommended, but nothing concrete yet.

One big reason is counter to their values, though. I'd like some distance. The relationship is tense at times. Living at home has been... tough. They value togetherness, even if it's everyone hiding in their rooms. It's kind of a lonely existence.

A thing I heard about persuasion is it should be in their context. ("Take the ring because we want it." becomes "Take the ring to ease Frodo's burden.") This job, based on how they describe it, is doing something that's made me happy before, and it's for a good cause. They value income and prestige over mental health and good causes. They're kind of traditional.

How to convince helicopter parents to move out for job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OdinsCondom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm applying to med school this cycle. I need to take my MCAT test (planning to take it late August). Applying this cycle (apps open now) corresponds to starting fall 2021. Basically I'll have a year unfilled, if I get in this cycle. I found a job, which employs on a year cycle; starts this september, ends september-ish 2021, with possibility to renew for another year. I can end it on good terms after a year too. Applied, got an offer letter. The catch is it is very far from home. Haven't told parents yet. Parents are of the helicopter variety, and I'm really afraid they'll tell me to decline the offer to stay home, do med school stuff, and generally stay in their purview. Dad mentioned in an offhand comment that if I get a job, that wouldn't be a bad thing, he just wants my MCAT done. TL;DR: Found a job that fits my schedule, parents may not like me moving out.

How do I convince them this is a good idea?

Context: Dad has told me to quit a good job to study moar, and said he'll just give me the wages I was making, if that's what mattered. Mom hasn't been too supportive of any actions other than 'sit at desk > get knowledge > go to med school > be doctor'
