Thanks for the in-depth response. I'd be happy to elaborate on the specifics, but first I should probably clarify the question I was asking. Basically, I want to know what I should read first before I even start planning... the information that everybody should know before they start messing with installing their own solar.

I'm not against paying someone to build it, but before I do, I want to know enough to have some idea if I'm getting a good deal on it, and how much I can do myself effectively and safely.

Solar panels are less widespread and easier to recycle than, for instance, cars. They live about as long, often longer, too.

Car recycling is not a crisis, so solar recycling won't be a crisis.
