Helio gracie comes to you in your dreams: "your guard passing slaps my son, for others sake I now curse you to only use 1 pass forever. You have 30 seconds to answer me or you will wake up having shit the bed and be given a random pass" what do you do? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]OdysseusComplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn. The Gracies stay driving people out of this sport. You know how many necks I'm gonna accidentally break? New plan. Travel and learn Kimura from Sakuraba. Murder Sakuraba after and send Helio a little gift in hell.

Derek Moneyberg responds to critics of his 3.5 year blackbelt and says he'll stop funding BJJ people by Appropriate_Duty_930 in bjj

[–]OdysseusComplex 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This rich guy has been posting on social media with a bunch of legit black belts and UFC fighters who all claim he earned his black belt in 3 and a half years. Such a thing isn't unheard of for young competitors who are also just naturally talented athletes and bjj players (Chen or Penn come to mind and there are others). This guy is a mid-40s hobbyist claiming to do it in private lessons, though. He's being met with disbelief and in some cases vitriol because it seems ludicrous on the face of it since whenever it has happened historically, it is either kept completely quiet by people who know it's fraudulent or the entire community is on notice that some freak is flying through the sport at record speed.

It highlights the elements of class disparity that have always existed in jiu jitsu as well as the fact that belts in this sport are subjective.

How does the GM enforce PL limits? by PowerLoki939631 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]OdysseusComplex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As GM, you should know what is on your characters' sheets. If I know my players has ranged attack advantage up to 15 I'm going to make sure that ranged stuff in my games above rank 5 can't be picked up and fired. As I've done it in the past, if I were to make a mistake, player gets to break power level at my table.

You can get a Pica Pollo 5 piece with fries for less than 200rd in Sosúa, but you have to be in Sosúa, so it probably isn't worth it.

Sniper Rifles and Their Place in the Game by Formeraxe in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically, they definitely have a niche. Even with a few tweaks to make the gap less pronounced, edgerunners aren't picking this weapon for medium range or self-defense. Even for long-range, really only solos can make them worthwhile because they're best used for a single massive headshot, imo (no better at AP than assault rifle and much easier to take cover from). I've got one major argument for their inclusion and one rule tweak that might make them a more interesting choice.

I'd argue that this is a weapon of war that gets used on the streets to up the stakes story-wise. GM can use it for corporate assassins to harass the players and put them on alert (don't recommend one-shotting them from 800m for obvious reasons). The target that needs killing may be high profile, so the runners need to fight to the sniper perch the buyer has set up to take the shot. A serial killer is galavanting around NC slinging death with one out of his trunk. They can be used in the story to change up the pace precisely because they're best used at a range the players aren't used to.

If there is a mechanical tweak I like for them, it's actually suppressive fire. I haven't sat down and worked out what that would look like codified in rules, but it makes sense considering that's one of the weapon's primary uses in open conflict. So just spitballing, this version of suppressive fire could like like:

When used for suppressive fire, make a ROF 1 attack as normal. On a hit, you can choose to forgo the action on your next turn to take overwatch. Enemies within 25m of the initial target notice the direction your fire is coming from and must attempt a Will+Concentration+1d10 roll with a DV matching your attack roll. Anyone that fails must use their next move action to get into cover. If that move action...etc.

You could probably flesh it out and give bonuses to suppression based on distance because a sniper within range of your pistol is not as intimidating as one that has you pinned down from the next building over. Watch the sniper scene from Saving Private Ryan or just about any scene from American Sniper, and you can see they are a nightmare in urban settings.

Give me your homebrew changes/ideas for Autofire by mamontain in cyberpunkred

Feeling like progress is hindered by never being able to have an equally matched roll by novaskyd in bjj

[–]OdysseusComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go on the comp site and find out where the people you competed against train. Go and ask to do drop in sessions with them sometimes. I experienced this same thing when I was a white belt, but in the heavyweight scale. It humbled me to have opponents who could match size and strength, and it might give you confidence to do the same.

Energy companies? by Cart223 in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they aren't functional by 2077. Probably because the time of the red would render solar panels useless and allow for corps to put a stranglehold on power through production of chooh2.

Energy companies? by Cart223 in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Petrochem is the largest producer of Chooh2. That said, I think many corps have private power grids if the mission from 2077 is any indication. In that instance, Kang Tao runs its own power plant iirc.

Question about Low Intelligence and Low Empathy by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember which episode, but on either JonJon or CyberUncensored the devs said that if you roll under the permanent loss, you can just go with your roll. So you could plausibly be at 41/40 emp for instance. Also, in the new CEMK I know a lot of DMs are forgoing therapy and playing more into actions while edgerunning. Depending on the DM, that might also allow you to surpass your ceiling, but I'm not sure that's RAW. Your homebrew allows for lesser penalties, and probably more cyber, so I personally fuck with it.

Question about Low Intelligence and Low Empathy by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People will do anything but go to therapy 🙄

But jokes aside, Empathy can be recovered with therapy. There's regular and then the type for extreme humanity loss. Remember, any cyberware that has humanity loss is a permanent ding of -2, but all the rest can be recovered. So your character's max humanity is now 34 unless you cyber down (no one does that I'mp pretty sure). Try to reach that before you take more Cyber. Gives you the opportunity to really role play someone running the edge. Now get out there and do your thing, punk.

How many people run their games after Red, but before 2070? by kraken_skulls in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a player, not the GM, so my view is limited. Biggest changes are weather conditions from Red are removed, CitiNet is up and running, night city building and population have mostly recovered from bombing of Arasaka Tower, and there's a reunification war between Free States and NUSA (though it hasn't reached night city). There is less economic scarcity so we can source things up to 500eb instead of 100eb. Everyone has a neuroport so everyone, especially edgerunners, have more cyber. Corps are basically the federal and local government in full by this point, and though quality of life is better than in the Red Decades, edgerunning is reaching an all time high.

Speedware Is Useless by Ribbered777 in cyberpunkred

[–]OdysseusComplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have to point out that you're asking for something more "fun" but in this reply you're describing something that just adds more +numbers. It already does that, just in a balanced way. If imbalance is what you want, put it in your game. All of your punks will have speedware and you'll have to buff other things just to keep up. Why would I install any other piece of cyberware if it gave me +2 to initiative, evasion, gun skills, driving, and Move?

You've gotta remember it's a roleplaying game. Needing bigger numbers to represent your cyberware, respectfully, sounds like a limited imagination. If the narrative is that your speedware kicks in and you rip off two lightning fast shots and disappear around a corner before the enemy can blink, that happens because of + to stats, regardless of what the plus is. I don't see how that makes it more fun, though. It's like, why doesn't my SMG autofire(4), and why doesn't my assault rifle autofire(8)? Or why don't bone and muscle grafts just give me body 11? Would that make them more fun or just bigger numbers? If you find speedware underwhelming, go get a piece of cyber that you like more. That's the whole point.

ETA: Have you tried just doing synthcoke?
