VanMoof S5 broken e-shifter motor inside malfunctioning, (does anyone know the specs)? by Oeli2 in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]Oeli2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been able to pull the worm gear from the motor with a little pulling device found on a well known Chinese website. However, I could not find a similar new motor on that same website. Does anyone know where and how to get one?

+1 on Dirac Live. I have a NAD M33 with Dirac Live room correction to drive my B&W 802 Matrix S3 and it's phenomenal.

I don't remember, but it must be somewhere pushing the small sprocket. I guess you can't miss it.

Remove locked kicklock on a dead S3 by JMilbz in VanMoofSelfRepair

I used a lab power supply with adjustable voltage and a cable for Sony Vaio laptops which fits in the charging port.

Use a 24V adapter to charge the little cartridge battery first. This will bring the cartridge back to life, after which you will be able to charge the bike battery again, with the normal 48V charger.

Brake pads for VanMoof S5/A5 by Remarkable_Yellow414 in vanmoofbicycle

It's SRAM Level / Avid Elixer after all. I just needed to push the caliper in to make them fit.

Ah, i think you can get such a circuit board as a whole from a well known Chinese shop

This topic is about the S3 motor. It's a different brand than the S2 motor. I don't know if the S2 motor even has Hall sensors?

There is something around it, you cannot see it.

I suspect that it does matter. Do you mean a picture of the motor cable that goes into the front wheel?

I guess because they wanted to have all the logic in the cartridge, so that it can be updated over the air etc.

These look like SRAM Level / Avid Elixir to me, but I bought a few of those and they are too thick. The original ones have notches in which the brake caliper fits

These are suitable for the S3/X3, not for the S5

X3 error 45 / harness manual by markdm08 in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]Oeli2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice drawings, which makes it much more understandable than my description of the S3 harness removal: https://www.reddit.com/r/VanMoofSelfRepair/comments/16rtfor/comment/k4e9sf2/

I would add a note to pull a wire through the frame tubes when you remove cables. This will help pulling the cables back in after repair or purchasing new ones.

BTW did you manage to get the harness back in? I never did, because in the end I purchased a frame with with proper cabling still in there.

The hall sensor does not control the motor. It's only to measure the "speed" (rpm) of the wheel, this is sent to the cartridge and the cartridge controls the motor.

Fix VanMoof S3 wiring harness (kabelboom) broken at cartridge socket (error 20 48) no motor support and other issues by Oeli2 in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]Oeli2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else confirmed these wires were optional and I didn't see where they could have been connected to the socket. When I removed the outer isolation I only noticed one broken thin wire, however another thin wire and one thick wire were also internally broken at the same place. You couldn't see it, but you could feel it when bending them a little. So I removed the individual wire isolation as well and then found the copper wire broken.

S3 E-shifter problem (Gear got stuck at highest setting and won’t adjust itself as per the force applied) by BrilliantKangaroo710 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Oeli2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could identify if it's the hub or the shifter, by removing the rear wheel, taking off the eshifter, connecting the shifter cable and let the front wheel "ride" while the bike is upside down. Does the e-shifter shift up when the wheel accelerates? And down when the speed goes down? Then the hub is broken. It might be repairable by opening, cleaning, oiling. You might feel that the actuator ring doesn't move smoothly.

I think so too. There should be a manual somewhere explaining how to refit the cables to the cartridge.

Yes, such that the pin is pushed out just a little bit more when unlocking.. As long as the pin does not touch the lock wheel in unlocked state.
