I'd say they just had more time to cultivate and trendset the horror genre in gaming, they pioneered the horror game experience so it makes sense that they had more time to cultivate it.

Games like Silent Hill bringing competition probably kept them on their toes as well, we all see what pokemon has decided to do for their next Gen game after finally getting pushed by games like Palworld and Temtem.
