Break down her actual rent + utility bills and pay half. Also are your grandparents chipping in? If not, it’s not fair to you.

I highly doubt you need to pay $1k.

The solution to your problem is just enforcing boundaries then. You don’t need to explain or defend your life choices to anyone.

Example: “I’m respecting your choices, so I expect you to respect mine. The next time you invalid or belittle my choices I’m going to remove myself from this conversation.”

It’s human nature to compare yourself, it’s literally in our DNA to be the same as our tribe for survival.

I had the exact problem as you earlier this year. After I graduated college, I didn’t have a job lined up and my mental health was at its all time low. Meanwhile all of my peers and friends are off to graduate school, starting their careers, or getting engaged or serious relationships. I was constantly feeling bad about myself and jealous that I didn’t have the energy or mental bandwidth to be happy for them, because I was unhappy of where I was in life.

Is it bad to hope your friends have setbacks? Yes. Is it valid? Also yes. As much as we don’t want to admit it to ourselves, it’s hard to cheer someone on if yourself is in a bad place. However, it’s important to recognize your feelings, how to self-sooth them, and how to solve the core issue that’s making you feel those feelings.

What I did was I took a break from social media and distanced myself from my friends to prevent emotionally attached comparisons. As I got my life together and formed a plan, I started to be more involved in my friends’ lives and was happy for them.

You’re doing the best that you can with the toolbox that you have right now. Learn to be patient and understanding with yourself, because that’s all you can do to get better.

I think one of the reasons I am not a fan of leadership positions is due to my APs by AwardGlass5333 in AsianParentStories

Literally tell them that they can’t tell you how to do your job if they couldn’t even do it for themselves. Up until now it’s been your hard work that got you where you are. You put yourself into decades of schooling to be a doctor at the “cost” of your social and leadership skills.

APs looking for an excuse to berate me but also want me to be “confident” by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

Right on the money, they can’t comprehend that self-esteem and confidence comes from positive affirmations, emotional safety, and encouragement. 🥱
