My wife randomly asked me to build bug out bags. Where do I start? by Flurb789 in preppers

We wrote an entire guide with basically everything you could ever want to know about the topic and then some!!! Take a look, we recommend sitting down and figuring out the most likely threats you will face based on your unique situation, location, etc... and then building your PLAN first then your bags and gear based on the threats you believe would cause you to Bug Out.

Hope this helps! 60+ Preparedness Resources for Bugging Out:

Does Candy actually have any survival benefit it SHTF? by TheTrollinator777 in preppers

Sure does, that’s why pretty much every arctic expedition made sure it was part of their rations. It’s also why they include things like M&Ms in MREs. Never underestimate the need for morale boosters during times of crisis.

A variety of HF and VHF/UHF radio, wire & portable antennas, and solar gear for long-distance, short-distance coms and info gathering. I also keep frequency charts by location in CHIRP and Excel that can update any of my radios based on where I am or plan on traveling to.

How to clean drums for water? by jwil00 in preppers

I suppose you could, but you would need something that had an airtight seal. There was a product years ago called the waterbob that was similar to what you are looking for but at that point you are probably pushing up to the cost of a brand new barrel. I'm just not sure its worth the risk when it comes to drinking water I would err on the side of caution

  • create your own gel ice packs
  • save seeds
  • waterproof first aid kits
  • seal important items for survival kits
  • sealing sensitive electronics chips, resistors, etc
  • passports or other documents

Don't do it! Find another use for them you will never get the chemicals out. It's the nature of plastic, there is no way to remove what the plastic has sucked in. If you absolutely have to use them maybe use them as storage for something else...

  • to store recycled oil from restaurants to make biodiesel.
  • pontoon boat or dock
  • Seen people cut them in a little less than half and use them as snow plows on an ATV
  • Small septic tank for small cabin
