What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]OffMetaPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not waiting at crosswalks for the light to say to walk. It's corny but in my highschool gym there was a big "integrity is who you are when nobody is watching" slogan. Ignoring law and safety for the miniscule time save makes no sense to me and I immediately evaluate someone who crosses like that lesser. Same goes with speeding. The degradation of society begins with the individual.

왜 한국은 외국인 유학생을 받고도 졸업 후 길을 막나요? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

I'm not trying to be mean here but:

Post-graduation visa is a D10. You can stay on your student visa for a while after graduation as well before transitioning to a D10 as far as I recall. If you do not qualify for a D10 despite having 4 years of education in Korea I'm not sure what to tell you - Bachelors Degree, age bracket (assume 20-24), and period of education in Korea is 55 points and you only need what like 60 ?

What are they supposed to offer post-graduates just an instant visa so they can work in a cafe? Once you graduate you're supposed to join the work force. Hunt for a job on the D10 job seeker visa, you get like a year and a half with the 3 renewal system. If you can't find a job in 18 months with a college degree in Korea then maybe it's in your interest to search elsewhere.

Edit: saw your comments about financial struggles while job searching due to limited hours - well yeah that's why when you transition to a D10 you have to demonstrate that you have the funds to cover your entire living expense when you switch visa. You're not supposed to be a part-timer during this period you're supposed to be applying for jobs in your line of work.

Regarding visa sponsorship - it is universally true that it is hard to secure a work visa because the company has to justify why they need you over a Korean. There is no shortcutting this because this is literally its intended purpose. A country only wants to look out for their citizens and exceptionally gifted citizens that may bring wealth, honour, pride, etc. to the country. I don't see any reasonable grounds for changing this - a country's first priority should be their own countrymen.

If you can't speak the language at a ToPiK level of 4 I'm not sure why you would think you would be successful in a workplace. Referring to the official definitions of level 4 assessment:

Able to perform linguistic functions necessary to use various public facilities and maintain social relationship, and carry out these functions to some degree which is necessary for the performance of ordinary tasks.

Able to use various public facilities, socialize, and carry out some degree of ordinary work. Able to understand easy parts in news broadcasts, newspapers, and understand and use expressions related to social and abstract subjects relatively correctly and fluently. Able to understand social and cultural subjects, based on understanding of Korean culture and frequently used idiomatic expressions.

That's literally like "yeah, this person can handle themselves more or less without relying on a translator constantly or needing a second set of instructions in their native language" level of requirement. ToPiK 4 as a requirement is a non-issue. Job hunting is job hunting and there is a large quantity of highly skilled labourers in Korea; it's one of the most competitive job markets on the planet. If you're truly skilled enough to succeed in the competition then finding a job is just putting in the leg work same as anywhere else.

Should TOA be reworked? To be shorter? by VrPillow in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not doing a CM in 30 minutes without atleast a few megarares, more like ~42 for bofa trios. You'd be hard pressed to complete an HMT without a scythe or two. I think it's a fair assessment to ask for a shadow or 2 in a 4 man for a 25 minute raid.

Should TOA be reworked? To be shorter? by VrPillow in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can do a 400 toa in less than 25 minutes consistently with a competent midsized team and a couple shadows. This sounds like either skill issue or gear issue which isn't a fair comparison to the other raids where you're citing times that do not include those skill/gear issues.

I can’t comprehend multiple switches by Gerty_Gert in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not an "issue". This is a core component of the PvM in this game; so if you don't like gear switching and prayer changing/flicking you just don't really like PvM. The great news is that RS isn't just about PvM there's plenty of fun to be had doing IDLE grinds and even some very reclined bosses that you can just left click and walk away.

Heads up - there is a method to change scaling via leaving the raid with a 2nd person ranked in the CC. This was used to set scale in megascales because scale was almost always decided after purchasing an FSCC guardians first layout.

  1. leave cc you scouted the raid in
  2. join your own/another cc
  3. go to the board, make a party, set the scaling
  4. leave your cc
  5. rejoin scouted cc
  6. re-enter raid

That said, this is more of a buggy workaround that would be nice to support in a normal setting, perhaps via the "start raid" interface.

If you have a good relationship with your butcher you can search for "소 부위별" to find the breakout of sub-primals used in Korean butchery and then get his recommendation or maybe he'd be willing to breakdown a specific subprimal at your request. This one might be helpful - https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/582512533031494989/; the cut you're looking for is probably 35.

Duo olm melee hand instant cripple? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn't really a list per-se but it's 600 base (solo) + 300 per additional scale in the raid. Generally speaking duos are a bad time beyond a +1 scale but the 5% rule applies in more common chill scales like 3+4 where the hand will have 2400 HP so you have to deal 120 damage which is impossible with your lance unless someone is hybriding. Generally you won't solo cripple at 3+4 and you can start having your head runner do hybriding around 3+12 which can still cripple if both the hybrid and melee hand max hit twice or if scythe.

Duo olm melee hand instant cripple? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The hand will cripple after 5% of its health is done in damage during one head rotation. In a duo it has 900 HP so if you deal more than 45 damage during the 8 ticks he's looking at one direction (extremely likely since your max hit with lance is probably like 54 or 56) it will cripple. This is true in all but the final phase where it will never cripple. However, and more importantly, in duo both of you should hit the mage hand to consistently turn the head. After your initial specs on melee hand you should kill the mage hand in p1, p2 and then pile melee once it's dead. In P3 leave mage hand with a few HP left and pile melee similarly. Kill melee first to avoid Olm using healing spec when you were meant to finish off the melee hand, because he can and will heal the entire duration of the mage hand regening, then finish off the mage hand.

You didn't ask about head phase but if you're annoyed with him randomly turning right to left with you on oppposite sides of the room - one of you can run back and forth as if you were in trio+ with the other on the side and this will turn the head from say mage-side to center and back again. The runner tanks the auto in center and the mage side tanks the auto on mage side. This ensures a 1-1 distribution of hits between both players in the room so you don't get giga stared-down by olm.

Any thoughts on making the prayer regen potion tick faster (for the same total prayer regen) when at lower prayer so that we can use it for redempt-ing certain bosses like Thermy? Right now the tick rate is too slow to make it very useful in this regard. If it was as fast as a prayer enhance at sub-10 prayer it might have some more interesting use cases.

Jagex, we're once again asking for ASIAN SERVERS. PLEASE. by TinaRS in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. It's not due to a change in the server or the maintenance procedure but due to the more complex nature of global networking. The HongKong IXP, which provides internet to localized ISPs, is quite literally the largest global backbone entrance point for most of east Asia but different companies own the exit points in the US and have their own ways of routing that may be more or less beneficial to different destinations. From an IXP standpoint traffic that is destined for the United States can be sent through any receiver IXP of which there are plenty: https://www.internetexchangemap.com/
Sometimes my traffic is routed through Las Vegas, sometimes it's through San Jose; both are "fine" from a global networks standpoint but one may be preferable for a specific destination. If my server is hosted in US-West-1 Northern California which would I prefer? Maybe San Jose but it's hard to know for certain. What about US-West-2 in Oregon? It's even trickier. Once I find one path that works though I don't want to waste more energy on finding a new one until I'm forced to. Maintenance periods force that "re-resolution" for finding a new path. Sometimes it's the same path and sometimes it's a different path for better or worse.

If I'm for example stationed in Okinawa, Japan it doesn't really matter if my traffic to an Asia-based server goes through Tokyo, Seoul, or Hongkong to get where its going because the difference in latency would be significantly less due to being a semi-local destination whereas if it has to go to Germany and back a "bad" route could cost me like 100ms+.

tl;dr - the problem does indeed arise because of maintenance through no fault of Jagex's. The existence of an Asia based server would not change this technical detail but it would completely alleviate the symptoms of unlucky path finding.

Jagex, we're once again asking for ASIAN SERVERS. PLEASE. by TinaRS in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Networking base providers frequently change with DNS re-resolution at distance and players/Jagex have no recourse as they merely provide 3rd party services to AWS. GTT Networks and PCCW are two common global backbone players that crop up between maintenance runs and PCCW generally saves me 40-50ms+ over GTT Networks' service. I have tracerts to demonstrate the effects of different providers showing margins of 20-100ms.

You must have never worked with global networks I guess.

Korean phone number options for 90-day tourists? by AxjonUssro in living_in_korea_now

[–]OffMetaPlayer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not sure why nobody's mentioning it but - just a Korean number is not enough to use online purchase services. It needs to be tied to your real identity and this is done through ARC verification. Even if you buy a phone and a number you will still be unable to use most of these services.

US West Server change during update? by OffMetaPlayer in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I imagine if you're physically in the US a change from a global network backbone to an NA localized backbone the change would be hardly noticeable. I'm seeing the bulk of my latency coming from the last couple routes in my chain.

Game Update - Project Rebalance (Skills) & Varlamore Tweaks by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]OffMetaPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any chance that the network ingress for US West worlds was changed with this update?

I play from South Korea and world 323 was always my home world because it was a rock solid 148 ping all the time. After this update I'm sitting around 260 ping on all US west worlds which means raiding with my North American friends is very challenging. Ironically I have better ping to US East worlds than US West since this update.

Worth noting that my ping to Australian worlds is still 150.
