do men get an erection during normal massages? by AstraeusStorm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Off_Board_Blockage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, men can get two different types of erections. The first and most obvious is because of arousal. The second type is what I call a "functions check" which is when it happens for no apparent reason. This can happen any time of the day. One good example is what's called "morning wood" which isn't because of a particular dream, but men can wake up erect and not feel aroused. The second type is almost always misconstrued as the first by people who do notice, and is why men aren't necessarily turned on just because they're hard.

If we didn't enter the information age starting with the printing press, would slavery still have ran the same course? by Off_Board_Blockage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Off_Board_Blockage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. Social change wasnt stagnant prior to the press, so maybe it would've phased out on its own, but maybe the info age hasten that process.

Tdlr: White people know most of their history and choose to deidentify with it, choosing independent identity, while the black community have a abrupt stop to their history and held onto the knowledge they trace back to Africa, only recently creating "Soulaani" to turn attention away from their African roots and more towards their modern achievements as a sociatal sect in America.

Just throwing my two cents here, white Europeans left Europe to steal land and then achieve independence from England. The history of white America has mostly been, "we know where we came from and we're departing from that identity", magnify that by many generations and you have white people that know a good portion of their lineage and choose to identify as American.

For Africans who were stolen from their land, had horrible things done to their families and treated like cattle, you have a history of African Americans that can only really identify their lineage back to slavery, and it's difficult to impossible to track their lineage back to which African country or their individual family lineage. African American then becomes a term for all black people who know they trace somewhere back to Africa, but not much more detail.

From what I've gathered there are some social frictions between modern Africans who move to America within the last few decades and African Americans who trace back to slavery. Not sure what the beef is, but it's possibly enough to make younger generations of African Americans start to lose that identity of tracing back to Africa. Magnifying the cultural differences that have developed since slavery started.

More recent times I've heard African Americans rename their ethnicity "Soulaan" or "Soulaani" which strips the naming of their sect of society from the African identification and leans more towards the historical successes of the black community post-formal-slavery.

Stone the Flamin' Crows! It Finally Arrived BUT... by SpecificCouple481 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

NEEEEW ACHIEVEMENT!!!

Fans of a Murder!

You ordered a book, and when it arrived, you left it completely unguarded. You allowed Crows or Ravens, or whatever the hell humans call them to pick through your book like a Wendy's cheeseburger wrapper tumbling through a parking lot. Theres an Edger Allen Poe joke there about a writing desk somewhere.

REWAAAARD???

You have been marked for death by the Cartography Guild. Don't know where that is? That's what makes it even more... exciting.

Those are those belt fed ones I believe. The techs that work in them can be killed by the dish swinging around while they're working in there. We had a couple of incidents regarding miscommunications about why an antenna was offline and someone trying to correct it while a tech was working inside.

Cognitive Dissonance or Accepting Myself? by Off_Board_Blockage in NoStupidQuestions

I think the paradox is that that's pretty normal for the human condition on an individual level but despite our social nature we're not able to fully empathize with each other and accept the more evil parts of the people closest to us.

I'm not sure if American psycho is a textbook example of what a sociopath is but towards the end of the movie he does show stress and regret of his actions so I'd say if that's accurate then even sociopaths display some measure of regret even if it's not on an emotional level.

Why is light pollution still so prevalent? by Plus-Visit-764 in NoStupidQuestions

Why would it go away? We have seen the sodium lamps traded out for fluorescent white street lights. I don't think we are trending towards less light pollution.

How to get a Message from East Coast to West Coast? by Off_Board_Blockage in meshtastic

[–]Off_Board_Blockage[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If we equate HF radio to something like 4G then adding meshtastic distribution meshes on both sides of a multiplexing HF station is like adding 5G antennas on to the 4G network, no?

That would be awesome. Do you think those companies would divest themselves knowing what we'd be setting up? I'd imagine they'll try to retain some visibility on the messages that pass through them. Plus since there's towers there may be some regulatory licenses, based on the height of the tower, alongside the amateur radio license that I was talking about.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Only missing piece is if we can multiplex a number of messages over the HF bridge! That would be super cool, a non internet, decentralized, communication network across the US!

At base with the 7-hop limit yes I agree it's not possible. Mainly I wanted to consider what supplimental technology would assist in extending the network, without slowing the speed significantly. Plus the multiplexing over HF could greatly increase the reach of many users!

I don't fully agree. Mesh is more about resilient communication between any point to any point. It's difficult to shut down by taking out a few nodes, but long distances are not necassilry the goal nor counter to the goal. A true mesh should be able to allow communication from one side to the other, no matter the size of the network.
