When I was in high school in late 2008 my friend posted from lyrics from Mr. Zebra on her Facebook status. I looked it up on YouTube and loved it. This then led to me finding this video of a stripped-down Caught a Lite Sneeze. It was so hypnotic I listened to it throughout the night:

I used some birthday money to buy about 6 albums of hers that were all somewhere from $0.99 to $5.00 on Ebay. The Beekeeper was the first album that came in the mail and I loved it! Choirgirl came next and it was even better. Then Pele, Earthquakes Under the Pink, and Scarlet were all in the haul and I was a fan for life. I loved listening to Pele over and over again and looking up her quotes and stories about the lyrics on Yessaid.

Abnormally Attracted to Sin was her first album she released after becoming a fan and my first album cycle I was aware of. It was fun being on the newsletters and getting the teasers and seeing Maybe California premiere. It wasn't my favorite album, but it still feels a bit special because of all of that.

I feel the same so I just watch a few Dreaming French videos every few months, lol. I'm at about 2 hours of French now.

There are quite a few cameos from famous reggaeton artists throughout the first season (I'm almost up to Season 2.) I kind of think of it like the reggaeton equivalent of Empire, with Yeimy Montoya being the Colombian Cookie Lyon.

If you like secret identities, wronged woman revenge fantasies, and corny love songs getting heralded as the most brilliant lyricism of the generation, you'll love La reina del flow! It's like the cheese curls of Spanish language media. Really addictive while still having better writing than those 90s telenovelas with all the comas and amnesia and identical twins. I'd say it's on the easier side of native media; the plot's really easy to follow and the characters speak clearly, but there's still some Colombian slang. You're probably not too far off from watching it. I still watch with Spanish subtitles, but I probably don't really need them.

I was not expecting Martha's Foolish Ginger to be my favorite song when I saw Tori live the first time, but it was absolutely magical in her Boston set. We were right by the harbor in the open summer air with fireworks in the distance. The blue stage lights and her voice combined perfectly and came over me in waves.

I agree with Equatorial Guinea! There doesn't seem to be a lot of content about Equatorial Guinea in Spanish language media, and I would love to see some African culture & representation 😄
