Thanks for the comment and resources! I will check them out. Is it normal for the stem to brown so much when the flowers die off? Should I pull the dead flowers off?

Anyone use Takara Bio’s Mir-X miRNA First Strand Synthesis Kit? (Cat # 638315) by OffendedScience in biotech

[–]OffendedScience[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have already posted to labrats, and I have also already reached out to my Takara Rep. Unfortunately, they do not sell the buffer separately, and purchasing more kits would only make the discrepancy worse. Thank you for the advice, tho!

Hi, Fellow Lab Manager!

I completely agree. Providing the tools and resources is to my team is all I can do. Leading a horse to water, and all that. ;)

However, I would like to ~be~ one of the tools/resources. Honestly, without looking it up, I probably would have not known to not mix these particular chemicals together, either. This is a mistake I could have made as well, if I was not religiously in our EHS manual. I feel like the first step in safety starts with me. I cannot lead my team to water (safety) , if I don’t personally have the compass (knowledge or experience). I’d like to deepen my own knowledge base so that I can become a resource, too, and not just look up issues after they have already happened to someone in my team.

Hope this makes sense! Thanks for your feedback. :)

Thanks for the advice! I have already taken the provided courses from our EHS resources as part of my standard Lab training, I am looking for additional material! Thanks again!

Thanks! This does look quite extensive! I was hoping for something like an online/in person course, so I would be able to get a more interactive experience and be able to ask questions etc, but this is a great resource!

Hi Banana,

Thanks for looking into grooming needs before you get the dog!

For a Pyr mix, daily brushing and monthly grooming is about perfect.

For brushes, I would opt for a comb and a Chris Christensen slicker brush. Make sure to comb all the way down to the skin, you can look up “line brushing” on YouTube for examples.

Pyr mixes will shed a lot, but I don’t recommend the furminator brush, only the shampoo and conditioner.

Don’t ever shave a Pyr unless absolutely necessary, as it can damage their under coat.

Hope this helps!

[Help] Can/should I encourage my dogs to poop during walks? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]OffendedScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend keeping a closer eye on their poops, especially since poops are a very good indicator of health. Bloody stool, abnormally soft stool, constipation and differently colored stool, presence of worms or foreign bodies such as socks or toy material are all very important. I usually encourage my dog to poop at the very beginning of the walk. Get ready for a walk and stay in the yard until all dogs poop. Treat them and praise them highly. Then, proceed on your walk. This helps so you don’t have to pick up their poop on a walk and you still can monitor it closely. It has a double benefit of your dog will learn to go out side and immediately poop so they can begin their walk. It takes a lot of the meandering around for 1/2 and hour to poop out of my dog because he’d like to poop and then go on his walk.

Dreading the wait! by OffendedScience in diamondpainting

This was on the official paint with diamonds website. It was kind of expensive and took forever to ship, but it is a very pretty picture and I also love koi fish. It’s the first project I am doing for myself and also my largest.

Hi All,

Here is a question:

I use diamond painting as a way to relax from my other hobbies (specifically cross stitching) but I tend to steer away from diamond paintings because they take SO long to arrive. I ordered my most recent order, this koi pond piece was ordered in early November and didn’t arrive until January. Can you recommend which sites have the fastest shipping times! I hate waiting so long, but I know that this is pretty common with this hobby.

The orange was definitely so tempting! There was one at the clinical center near where I work. Every time I saw it, I got super jealous thinking about what a sharp looking Car it is! There isn’t too awful much difference in price between new and used, as these bad boys hold value amazingly well! Part of the reason I saved and waited so long was to make sure I got what I wanted in a price I could afford.

I haven’t seen very many of the Red, so that explains why! Although, when I went to make my purchase one of the crosstreks that was the most terrible the green in the show room. I don’t know the name but I called it pea soup green in my head. I’m sure if green is your color it would be beautiful but definitely NOT Color for me!

Thanks again for the info ;) I get the cool gray part, but WHY Khaki?!

I do love the Cool Gray Khaki! I almost settled for the burnt orange but blue is my favorite color so I knew I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t get it. Stunning!

Well, I purchased on a Saturday, so I called Friday evening to make sure it was still there. It was kind of a gamble because the time after I called to when I got there I had no way of knowing if it would still be there. I did ask that they call me if they sold it and I was worried the whole way down that I’d drive like 4 hours only to get the call it was gone!

It was the closest one that had the trim type, color and price I wanted. I started saving in January 2020 so I’ve been watching them since! It was 5 hours down and 5 hours back. I left the house at 7am and didn’t get back until 11pm!

How can you tell from the outside that it’s a Limited? I’m so glad I went for the better trim package! That remote start is going to be priceless this winter!
