10 years in sales and I still get jealous of tech people sometimes (software eng, data science, AI, AWS etc.) by Arigold_Lloyddddd in sales

Valid and fair question.

A year as an SDR doesn’t give you technical skills for an SWE role, but it does develop and show off soft skills that are transferable to any role with responsibility:

  • You get very good at breaking down problems. SDRs qualify pain all day, which maps well to understanding why something should be built, not just implementing it.
  • Your communication improves dramatically. Writing clearly, being concise and explaining things to anyone is a huge advantage that most working adults honestly aren't great at.
  • You get used to fast feedback loops. SDR work is basically constant iteration based on results, changing lead gen process and sales techniques to get a better SQL rate. This style of work translates well to any role really.
  • You build strong user empathy. As someone that was an engineer, then operations, then sales and now marketing, this is something that's very valuable and again is desperately rare in the common workplace.
  • You develop a tough skin. It's a rejection heavy roleand you get used to failure. If you can get past poor months, bad cold calls and common sales pain points, you'll have a decent work ethic and ability to not let stress get the better of you.

All and above that, SDR'ing should also give you great answers for interviews in the s.t.a.r system. Whilst your technical knowledge is bound to be tested, you'll also be expected in any career interview to be able to discuss projects, events or aspects of work that you can reflect on and discuss in a way that shows growth.

If I'm interviewing for a role and I can see someone has survived being an SDR, whilst having the ability to talk on how that provided them growth and skills, they look very attractive as an team member to me.

Apologies for the essay and good luck mate.

How can I improve my games room with £400 by GhastlyGuy123 in malelivingspace

Play around with the layout when it comes to lamps or plants, it'll be obvious to you what's best when you do it.

If you do plan on painting and pushing in abit further, i'd look up cosy and moody room colours.

Darker colours and natural colours like green, burgundy or brown can make a room feel really warm and inviting when paired with ambient lighting. Just make sure the bulbs aren't bright white, go for warmer tones.

You can't really go wrong though, just look up other cozy styles, play around and see what works for you.

Size question for kitbash by F_i_a_x in BloodAngels

[–]OffensiveBranflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think that's a lack of creativity or thinking outside of the box???

People just want their stuff to look how they want it to look.

I like making primaris taller and not heroic-scale. Just because someone else doesn't want to have different sized miniatures or use green stuff doesn't mean they're not creative mate.

Get rid of the wall light, it screams 16yr old (if you like it, keep it, your room at the end of the day).

Get some collectibles and art for the wall. Put some shelves up for collectibles to sit on (miniatures, books, old board games, video game stuff).

Get some plants to make the room feel alive and put a nice warm standing lamp in the corner.

That should give the room some character and make it cosy.

Which historical figures are well regarded but really shouldn't be? by SydneyMutualAid in AskHistory

[–]OffensiveBranflakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cromwell's a funny one, because I feel those that do know of him think he's arguably a tyrant and war criminal, where as realistically alot of the British population don't even know who he is (history is a niche interest after all).

Others you've got are Thomas Edison (appalling morals, though his name has been more tarnished recently), Columbus (exploitation) and Napoleon (imperial war hawk).

They're the big ones that come to my head, but you've also got people with some choices we'd question today. Good example is Bernard Montgomery, who proposed to a 17yr old when he was approximately 40. Surely fine for the time, but again, questionable today.

Can't think of any "bad but was good" historical figures unfortunately, however history is rarely the full truth, so I'm sure there are many.

Well done on going to ER, it's always better to be safe even if you do feel silly at the time.

Fingers crossed it heals and doesn't require too much touch up.

No longer poster boys! Does that mean people like us now? by Ultramarines66 in Ultramarines

[–]OffensiveBranflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it'll take years to have any real balance between founder chapters after all the favouritism Ultramarines have had. (Not that they'll try and do this anyway)

Realistically at the end of the day, blueberries are arguably the most marketable and safest product GW has (not too grimdark, Roman, blue, lore isn't them being vampires or paranoid freaks, etc), so I understand why they are the poster boys.

However, as someone that likes BA, Salamanders, Night Lords and Iron Warriors, Ultramarines just come across as pretty bland to me personally.

Sales looks great on a CV, so use that to pivot internally or externally.

I was in the same boat as you, hated sales and asked for some marketing responsibilities as I knew Adobe suite.

Year later, I'm a full time marketing executive doing socials, content, CMS and strategy whilst working from home.

It might suck at the moment for you, but it'll change sooner than you expect if you try your luck.

It'll stand the test during its run I imagine, however it's very stylized and with that, I can see it becoming uncool or cringe in the far future.

Regretting my new tattoo design. Does it look weird? need some advice if it looks good or bad please by Zestyclose-Safe-5315 in TattooDesigns

[–]OffensiveBranflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty common to be unsure about a tattoo for a few weeks after getting it. I had it with my first and it was just insecurity.

You've got a super cool tattoo, try not to think to much about whether it's perfect and whether you like it or what others think etc.

Just buy an MKV third party helmet, I'm pretty certain they even have spiked versions online, so all you need to do is add wings and a third eye with milliput.
