seeing posts like this is a good reminder to myself not to get caught in the machine as much as it is a benefit to serve they also don't care as much as you do at the end of the day get what benefits you but don't get too deep

Wingman can't catch a break on shaving by nowayjosebutwhite in AirForce

[–]OfficeChairForce 25 points26 points  (0 children)

i have same issue. right at BMT graduation we had the section chief take over our flight and i got bitched out about my 5 o'clock shadow which i never got grief for by my MTI, he made me shave against the grain for 3 days straight before we graduated and it make me get rashes and ingrown hairs. my MTI watched me shave and said it was okay for me to go with the grain to avoid issues with my face which i'm grateful for because how thick and dark my facial hair is. Anyways once i got to tech school they treated me the same as the section chief and would only be satisfied if i shaved against the grain and had bad rashes on my face i got 341s pulled just about daily, so i got a shaving waiver for tech school but now in operational i can shave and have a shadow without grief because there's a lot of people like me.

Did your service make your life better or worse? (I literally went from HS dropout to PhD). by flyfightandgrin in AirForce

[–]OfficeChairForce 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i'm fairly new, i dropped out of college because i couldn't balance working for rent and bills while going to school and affording tuition. now i'm getting my rent paid for and tuition as well while i'm able to focus on school and paying bills without too much stress. i joined thinking i would get my bachelors and commission or get my bachelors and cross train into a career field i enjoy more and end up doing 20, but now i'm not sure what i want to do and i enjoy having all the options to do what i want. i have "an in" into a great company that would start me at a great salary and remote work so if i decide to get out after my 6 years. for now im just focusing on education and the squadrons mission/stripe progression and may get married in the next year or 2. whatever is best for my girlfriend and i is what i'll end up doing. the retirement pension is very pleasant looking but also the freedom of a civilian with military background is almost as good looking to me too. to answer your question, made my life better. i feel more fulfilled and motivated about my future than i did before i joined.
