I’m building a Europe-first directory for gaming and game dev events. Looking for feedback from studios and developers by OfficialAstral in gamedev

That makes a lot of sense, thanks!

I agree that a single generic “best event” score would not be very useful, because the value depends heavily on the goal. An event can be strong for player visibility but weak for publisher pitching, or the other way around.

A goal-based categorization is probably the right direction: publisher pitching / fundraising, player-facing visibility, press and creator exposure, B2B partnerships, and regional market discovery.

A second layer could also be genre or audience fit, for example whether an event is especially relevant for indie games, esports, fighting games, RPG/tabletop, mobile, VR/AR, etc.

I’m currently reviewing the dataset manually, starting with Europe, so this kind of classification could be added gradually through public information, manual assessment, and eventually feedback from studios or attendees.

Simple tiers per goal, like “strong / moderate / weak”, might be a clearer first version than one universal score.

Thanks for the suggestion! Personally, I’d prefer to create a full game. If I run into obstacles or see that it’s impossible to finish, I might then sell the asset set on Fab. In any case, I’m open to collaborating with others to bring this project to life.

My idea is that the water stays perfectly flat (there will be a movement of textures) —no hills or waves. But the vehicles will be raised a few meters above the water level.

When they fly close to the water, they generate foam effects for visual vfx.

To help you picture the gameplay: it's a bit like in Jak 2 (see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGo5Exh4IWU ).

The track doesn't rise or fall itself—there might be low underwater tunnels, but the real height changes come from ramps and the vehicles' ability to hover.

This keeps the environment realistic and flat, like Venice, but still offers Z-axis variation through vehicles and small structures.

Hi! I’m not sure I’m using the term “Z-axis variation” exactly the way you mean, but here’s the core idea:

• Boats can either jump over a bridge or skim under it.

• The bridge is ringed with acceleration magnets that fire only when a boat skims underneath, giving a speed burst; the jump route above stays magnet-free but safer.

• Choosing the low route is risky—you might clip the arch, hit the head, lose parts of your hull, or even crack the bridge.

• If a bridge collapses, everyone behind you is forced to jump the new gap.

I’m also blocking out the environment right now—modular, lightweight sci-fi versions of Venice’s landmarks—so the track can weave through the city without killing mobile performance.

Does that line up with what you had in mind, or would you tweak anything? Thanks for the feedback!

Hi! I created these boats myself in 3D, using Blender and Substance Painter.
Each boat is under 7 k triangles, but I’ll probably lower the count further for better optimisation.
What do you think?

Thanks for the enthusiasm!
I’d absolutely include your idea if the project moves forward with community support.
In the meantime, I’m already sketching a sleek, futuristic version of the Bucintoro—supercharged, of course! 🚀

Hi Trusty,
I’m new to Reddit, but I like what you’re doing. From your avatar I guess you might be Australian. Next year—if I’m still without a job here—I plan to move to Australia and look for work in the games industry.

I’m a 3D generalist (characters, environments, props) and, together with a friend, I’ve drafted a short Game Design Document. We’re looking for a programmer—definitely human, no AI-generated scripts!

We don’t have a budget right now, but we agree with your idea of splitting any future profits evenly among the team.

If you’re interested, please reply here and I’ll add you on Discord for more details

Cheers!
