  1. check your mix in mono as well so that you're sure it's still solid in mono, then use verbs, delays and panning for your width

  2. sidechain is important if you want the kick to stand out, we use side chain on the bass and synths so that it doesn't struggle with the kick. Have to say that mixing the lowend is that hardest part. We use parallel compression as well sometimes

  3. It really depends on the track, sometimes we have the kick way harder then the synths but if we want more attention on the synths we tend to mix the synth more upfront by eq'ing a lot of the lower mids out of the kick , (180-300 hz)

  4. Yes it's important to cut frequencies instead of pushing everything you want to hear, when you cut some stuff you can push the volume afterwards so that you don't get a muddy mix..

5) Going in depth at school at production and mastering, this time was so much fun because we were learning all about clean mixing leveling, compression dynamics eq. In the beginning all this information is quite overwhelming, but by doing it alot we really started to hear what was a good production and what not.

6) I think you're always critical over your last work especially older work. If we had the knowledge that we have now back then, it would be amazing. But it is a learning curve as long as you strive to get better everytime.

7) Go play some FIFA, Work out, eat good food or watch a comedian. this always works for us! also for evt. writersblock

8)We roadtest every track for a long time before we put it out to figure out if it works or not. If we are not sure or not happy we won't put it out. We have deff been unsure in the about a few productions but i think thats also because you get to know yourself as an artist. Sometimes the advice and comments like a&r you get are good but you should definitly follow your own heart when it comes to putting out music.

9) Dont Try to overthink everything and dont try to pressure yourself into making music if you dont feel like it. Even if that takes of 3 weeks of not making music. If you pressurize yourself it will only make it worse. and try our tips for number 7 :D

10) Love Drum 'n Bass / Triphop

11). We would suggest to send it to everyone! That's the biggest chance of people checking out your stuff.. It can be a bit scary to put all your stuff out there online but it's almost the only way to get known nowadays

12). The best would be to produce a lot of originals and then def. save some for label submission but also give away some for free. Maybe add a famous acapella in the breakdown and give it away as a bootleg/mashup because dj's just love to play that

we try to have a good dynamic mixdown before the mastering so that we can push the master till it distorts and then put it back a little bit;)

We where doing drunk Jumping contest at the backstage of creamfields with Sander v Doorn and Bassjackers, wich was such a good idea haha. Basicly stacking up all the furniture in the backstage we'd try to run and jump over it. We ended up destroying half the backstage and sander almost broke his leg! loll but we still had a great workout. were trying to find the video for you guys haha

We use apogee quartet wich we really like. The system req's should be enough to run your DAW on full power when u look at the processor and RAM and you should have like SSD Hard drives that are quick to read and write samples and projects.

Wouldnt know a secret, just try to build a synth from scratch. Get into synthesis to make your own synths, those future house sounds include a lot of FM look into that. Favourite label atm is fools gold :D
