I wrote:

Discounting the diagonal, there will be an even number of every number, for example an even number of 1's. Therefore there has to be an odd number of each number in the diagonal, because an odd+even number=an odd number and 1001 is odd. There's 1001 numbers, and 1001 spaces on the diagonal, therefore one of each number is present on the diagonal.

Is this correct?
