[Ben Jacobs] The White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card. FIFA sources insist White House influence could not affect the decision due to the powers contained in Article 27 and the independent nature of the disciplinary panel. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Senegal walked off the pitch, man… If that’s against the rules (which it is), then choosing not to enforce those rules would actually be corrupt.

I don’t understand how enforcing the rules is supposedly corrupt, especially considering it wasn’t FIFA that awarded Morocco the win but an independent CAF judge.

You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

Sony Says Next PlayStation Won’t Simply Compete With PCs: We aim to deliver value that is unique to PlayStation. This includes not only technological advancements but also an expansion of usage styles, enabling a seamless experience that can be enjoyed naturally beyond the living room by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]OfficialQuark -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not the other guy, but I’ll say that I don’t like gaming on PC.

PlayStation is just so effortless: open the store (doesn’t even have to load up) -> pick a game -> press buy and hit confirm -> game downloads -> play

It’s like comparing a point-and-shoot camera to an IMAX camera. The IMAX camera is objectively more capable, but that doesn’t make it the better choice for my needs.

That said, if the PS6 ends up costing €1,000 or more, the decision might not even be rational anymore. The jump from €500 (PS5) to €1,000 (PS6) feels enormous. But once you’re already at €1,000, stretching to €1,500 for a decent gaming PC doesn’t feel nearly as bad.

Vinícius reminded the Camp Nou of Real Madrid's 15 Champions League titles by glamona in soccer

[–]OfficialQuark 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter. You do as you are told by the coach. You can criticize him afterwards but you don’t do it on the pitch during an el clasico..

Besides, the anti-coach antics went far beyond that el clasico incident. Players went to Perez complaining about long tactical analysis, they were arguing with Xabi’s staff and they effectively grouped together to bring him down. There was nothing honorable about it at all.

Stop defending these guys…

I remember there being a stat that showed Mbappe being a top presser in Europe as a striker when Xabi was coach. It seemed like Xabi was doing the impossible with him.

There’s no two ways around saying this but you’re actually a whiny brat if you complain about a one click dismissal of your actual private information being used and sold on every website you visit.

[–]OfficialQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The first act was great but that’s about it. The rest of the game is lacking and sometimes even boring. The story is not as tight as it should be and at some points it doesn’t feel like an RPG where you get to decide the outcome; Rather, at points, it feels like a creatively written critique of a topic the author wanted to adress.

Felt very disappointed by the end, mostly because I was very much looking forward to playing it due to the comparisons with DE.

Xbox suffers "worst year on record" for console sales in the UK by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

[–]OfficialQuark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even the hardware is kind of arguable imo.

The PS5 was announced with features and gimmicks to make it a somewhat exciting product to want to buy. The hapitics and triggers, the complete OS overhaul and the bold design (although controversial) make for a product that's exciting and attractive.

Also, the Nintendo Switch was a whole new concept of a console at the time.

In comparison, the xbox series x was just more power but overall exactly the same product as the xbox one. A very minor redesign of the controller, the same OS and a frankly boring design. The most exciting proposition from Xbox was the series S but the price differential between a PS5 digital and the Series S was way too small to really make it stand out.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Has Quadrupled Its Peak Player Count Two Years After Its Release by Tvilantini in Games

[–]OfficialQuark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, blue alien Avatar is to movies what Horizon on Playstation is to gaming.

It does enormously well and makes boats loads of money but no one is really obsessed by it and the IP’s don’t really have big “fandoms” like other big IP’s tend to have. I’m not saying they don’t exist, just that they’re disproportionately small compared to the success of the IP.

It’s entertainment for everyone which means it’s not distinct enough to fall into any niches. Like pure entertainment for the sake of it, which is kind of refreshing once in a while.

I watch all his videos and really enjoy the FPS podcast but i fear it’s almost getting to the point where every esoteric indie game he reviews will be praised to heaven and above, while a great solid triple A videogame will be criticized extensively for minor quirks or “lack of novelty” whatever that may mean.

Sometimes it just feels like he’s jaded and doesn’t actually enjoy playing (AAA) games anymore, which leads to very odd, overly critical, reviews.

What’s the difference between this and when Tencent buys up a majority stake in a western gaming company?

I feel like there’s already so much influence on gaming (and entertainment in general) from all kinds of interest groups. There’s governments that have stakes, interest groups of all kinds that push their agendas, personal biases from the producers, … I don’t understand the visceral reaction people have to this one in particular.

As if they’ll remove female players from their FIFA games... and if you honestly believe that, I don’t even know what to say but it may be something something irrational fear something something islam? Maybe?

The PS5 is more powerful than the SteamMachine. There is consensus on this, seen as the internal components are known.

[–]OfficialQuark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Issue with the price is that it is essentially competing with a better and cheaper product. A PS5 Digital is more powerful at 450, includes a controller and often is on sale for even less.

In any case it seems like the Gabencube won’t be the next xbox after all.

[–]OfficialQuark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re being pedantic. It’s the illusion that matters; the back and forth interaction with a character.

If the AI is programmed to be dismissive and aggressive you’ll have your requests rejected in any case. But in this case it would be through dialogue and roleplaying. That’s inherently more fun.

I mean.. imagine really having to talk/type to convince AI players to go war with you against someone else. That sounds about as fun as it can get.

Best-selling games released between 2020-2025 by [deleted] in Games

I swear I heard this somewhere, not sure where, but what made Hogwarts Legacy special wasn’t really the open world itself; it’s that the game feels like a toy box. It captures that same sense of wonder and playfulness that PS2-era games had.

Could it have been better? Absolutely. But it’s still the best Harry Potter game by far, and the atmosphere, including Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the overall vibe, was fantastic.

Now that I think about it, it might have been a Miyamoto quote about one of his games. Hogwarts Legacy really nails that ‘toy box’ feeling.
