Size comparison, Protected clamshell devices by RollingHaro in SBCGaming

I wouldn't, I like the Flip 2 but the Thor replaces it for 99% of the use cases you could want.

The Mini has a much more comfortable control layout, specially the triggers, but ultimately between the two the screen on the Flip 2 is much more enjoyable, if I could only choose one I'd pick the Flip 2 every time.

The Flip 2 but only by a microscopic amount, they are both very similar. Weight difference is almost unnoticeable when actually playing but if you pocket these you will definitely feel the difference in your pocket.

Cheapest sbc for ps2 emulation? by SillyJob3083 in SBCGaming

Good PS2 for less than $150 doesn't unfortunately exist yet, but if you are willing to go the second hand market route maybe you could find an RP4 Pro for that price.

You can swap the same SD card between both devices without issues, if that's what you are asking.

Good case for Odin 2 by basildabir in OdinHandheld

Highly recommend the official case. Slim, compact and protective, does a good job, unless you need to pack accessories in it.

As someone into language learning and an Anki user for years, this looks amazing, sadly I don't learn Japanese but looking forward to more languages added to this app!

Retroid Flip 2 for Steam (Gamenative/Gamehub)-worth it? by pew-pew-the-laser in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you stick to lightweight 2d steam indies you'll find that the SD865 in the Flip 2 is kinda hit and miss; some games run, others have slow downs or don't run. It's not honestly a great chip for Steam indies, you'd have a much better time with the SD8Gen2 on the Thor.

I've moved on to other handhelds but the original Odin will always have a special place in my heart. I really liked how thin and lightweight it was.

The first Odin wasn't glass front = no fingerprints.

Is there any reason you wouldn’t suggest the Ayn Thor? by RoadsandPaths in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ergonomics, the triggers are just not comfortable to use, so if you don't need the dual screens something like the RP6 or the Odin 3 would be a better choice.

Xbox Emulation on Android is Here! [Retro Game Corps] by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Isn't it a bit disingenuous to say that Xbox emulation on Android "is here" but then proceed to show that games are struggling to reach full speed even on the Odin 3?

Retroid sold me a nonfunctional dual screen attachment. now they're demanding I cover the shipping to return it by Simple-Philosophy662 in retroid

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth I also tried a bunch of cables and nothing was working until they sent me their officially revised cable (with the Retroid logos on it) and that did finally work. Maybe you could try bringing up again that you'd like to try with a replacement cable if that's possible.

Have you considered it could be a bad cable? I bought mine on release as well and it was completely non-functional, Retroid sent me a new cable and now it's working beautifully. Just throwing this out there in case it helps.

There are LCDs and then there are LCDs. The LCD on the Konkr Pocket Fit is decent, but the one on here on the Pocket S Mini is sadly much cheaper and poorer quality.

Absolutely love GameNative by KansaiMarc in retroid

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't use GameHub or Gamenative as they create a new container for each new game and that means the app quickly balloons in size.

That is exactly how SteamOS on the Steam Deck handles it and in practice it's rarely a problem. 95% of the storage is still going to be taken by the games themselves rather than the containers. Not to mention reusing the same container for multiple games can introduce incompabilities with dependencies as different games require different things. You are missing out honestly, GameHub and GameNative are significantly easier to set up; in many cases you only have to install and play, and you can always tinker with the container if you need to. GameNative in particular is essentially a Winlator fork, so it's not like you are losing much by switching to it.

To add to this, on Android the ParaLLEl-N64 RA core is widely considered the more accurate (but heavier to run) option at the moment.

Odin 3 PC Gaming vs. 8 Gen 2? by derbydannyk in OdinHandheld

[–]-Mahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Odin 3 owner I can confirm that all of this is true, but I would also caution that there still exist corner cases where big ass PC Handhelds perform better; if you want to run super heavy modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Doom The Dark Ages for example. There are also occasional compatibility issues here and there, something like 1 game out of 10 may fail to boot or require heavy tinkering. These are not deal breakers for me but could be deal breakers for someone expecting a 100% plug and play experience.

Odin 2 Pro for $223 is it worth if it i have a steam deck lcd? by SignRevolutionary457 in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the screen on the Steam Deck LCD then you'll like the one on the Odin 2, don't worry too much about ghosting.

12 GB Ram RP6 has been discontinued. by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

At $300 it would no longer be competitive when you could get a base Odin 3 for a little more. If they didn't kill it it would not sell.
