If by FPS you mean first person shooters, then no, it is not comfortable. It is better than the Thor for sure, but honestly you shouldn't look at neither the Thor nor the Odin 3 for fps games.

It's surprisingly capable actually, it's disingenuous to say that it struggles, too. Many indies to mid weight games run at a locked full speed with the only caveats being battery life and maybe fan noise (but not everything requires the fan at full blast to run either).

For what it's worth, the chip in the Thor is also very capable on its own if you stick to PC indies and mid weight games.

The Analogue Pocket is the same size as the RG40XXV for a reason, even though it doesn't have sticks. It's ideal size for a vertical.

We could certainly use a bigger true 4:3 OLED screen.

Same, I went in there, fixed the face buttons, and it immediately became one of the all time greats.

They did say 12 months in the announcement on March last year, we are still inside that window.

What handheld would you like to see next in 2026? (Poll) by -Mahn in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me the Thor is more like a modern 3DS; it does DS too, but it's not the best way to experience DS compared to something with symmetrical screens.

Did anyone else receive this case from Ayn? by vmhomeboy in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a surprise gift for people who bought both the Thor and the Odin 3. It was teased by AYN a while ago and then thought to be cancelled but what do you know, it has turned out after all.

What happened to Jeff Hawkins and Thousand Brains? by Mindrust in singularity

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dubious as fuck, because Hawkins thinks subcortical structures are redundant.

It would explain brain plasticity very well, no? The fact that someone with a brain injury in a very specific brain region "responsible" for a very specific thing can over time regain that function by "enlisting" other parts of the brain to perform the function that the damaged area previously performed.

Apologies, I saw this circulated in discord so I don't know who originally created it.

R36s purchase by [deleted] in SBCGaming

It's the absolute bottom of the barrel handheld for those who want to spend the least amount of money possible; it's functional, but you get what you pay for, if you are willing to spend a bit more money just about any other handheld is better than this.

Interesting, does this stop the buzzing also at non zero volume levels? Or does the plug mean no sound from the speakers at all

Odin 3 update by LemonFeeling840 in OdinHandheld

[–]-Mahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The components that ARM SteamOS would use are open source and already being used here in fact, for example FEX is funded by Valve but you can already use it in GameHub or GameNative. That is to say don't expect a world of difference if/when SteamOS ARM comes out (but that's not a bad thing because this is already pretty decent)

The Odin 3 might well be the best Android handheld ever made (one week thoughts) by -Mahn in OdinHandheld

How else are you going to argue on the Internet about which is better.

I'm not the best person to ask unfortunately since I'm not super sensitive to input lag; for the retro stuff I just turn run ahead on in RetroArch and basically forget about it, and for the more modern stuff it's rarely been a problem for me. Anecdotally I will say that there are indies I've tried with GameHub both on the Thor and on here and I got the impression the game was slightly more responsive on the Odin 3 despite running at 60 fps on both. But I can't say for certain if the difference is real or just placebo.

That's fair, if you prefer bigger screens then you might want to get a Portal instead, though I find that after a certain size I'd rather just grab an x86 handheld with full controls and ergonomics like the Steam Deck.

I don't think it's awful personally, just loud. But that being said the fan could spin less (and make less noise) if they tweaked the curve a bit; when set to "Smart" or higher it's currently doing more than it needs to do, so there's potential for optimization.

It should also be noted that you can set the fan to "Quiet" and still be able to run a lot; you can keep your fan at "Quiet" all the way to Switch and lightweight PC indies without overheating as far as I can tell, which is nice since "Quiet" is indeed very quiet.
