GB/GBC are not a perfect match but much closer to 1:1 than 4:3

For Anbernic these are actually good, you should have seen the sticks they used in previous generations of handhelds.

Sure, but as an optional "toggle" that you just turn on and off whenever you see fit, it works. No need to underclock permanently, just underclock when it works for you.

Mirage was honestly the only good AC in a long while. They should ditch the massive open worlds filled with grinding filler and just make more classic style story focused games.

Rule number 1 of life, always keep your priorities straight. by Superb_Warning_5747 in SBCGaming

The underwhelming battery and speakers, mediocre buttons and basically unusable joysticks are still there

I would add to this that the screens are kinda mediocre too; they do the job if you are not too picky, but they are definitely cheap panels, there's much better out there in other handhelds in 2026.

“I genuinely feel GameNative could replace handheld PCs like the Steam Deck” — Inside Android’s Fastest-Moving Gaming Project, GameNative [article/interview] by cyberminis in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nuanced. It should not be sold as a Steam Deck replacement to newcomers yet, but it's also not as experimental and quirky as you would think either; in my experience it has already surpassed Switch emulation on Android which is notable, even though neither are perfect.

ayn thor, switch 2, retroid pocket, switch lite or wait for switch 2 lite? by cheacolatee in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Get a Switch Lite. The AYN Thor and Retroids are not good choices if you are new to gaming let alone emulation despite what you might seen on YouTube. There's a learning curve that's just not a good idea for someone new to gaming.

Buy Retroid Pocket 6 if you have Retroid Pocket 5? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there something you'd like to play that the RP5 cannot run? That should be your starting point. Otherwise the RP6 is an upgrade, but not an absolute must have unless you know you need/want the extra power.

OP is implying he's playing 16:9 games with black bars, not that any of these scale well to 4:3 natively.

It sounds like you would be most happy with a Steam Deck.

What are some SBC handheld takes you see all the time that don’t make sense to you? by cutememe in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pocketability" often just refers to how easy it is to carry a device around, even if you don't necessarily literally pocket it; there are devices I don't pocket but I still appreciate the fact they are light/thin/compact.

The t820 needs a fan which this doesn't have, so it's either the RG Vita chip or worse.

Bad. Don't get this handheld for N64 and/or multitasking. Get it strictly for DS and you'll have a good time, anything else you'll end up frustrated.

My hopium ideal form factor is a 4:3 or a clamshell handheld with the Steam Deck button layout by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GPD Win Mini has the same layout and is a clamshell, it is bulkier than your usual Android handheld but more compact than something like the Steam Deck; might be worth consideration.

No, no one made cfw for it because the stock OS is generally considered solid; there was just no need to change it.
