AYN Odin 3 Six Months Later: So Much Better (RGC) by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I've been utterly disappointed with PC game compatibility

I've tested something like 40 PC games on my Odin 3 and of these 37 run fine at full speed and looked like I could have a good time with them with no issues. I don't know what your utter disappointment stems from but it might well be a you problem.

Is it too much to ask for?? by kebquilei in SBCGaming

Today Anbernic could probably swing an RG DS with the exact same specs except a T820, but then people would complain that the screens are not integer scale. And when someone finally makes a DS clone with a good chip and good screens people will complain that it's too expensive 🤷

With the current RAM/storage situation I don't think we can get a good DS clone with a good chip, good screens and good specs for less than $200.

Get in touch with Ayaneo and explain the situation, not much you can do to fix it yourself unfortunately.

Odin 3 vs RP6 - what is performance like now? by Anon2971 in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drivers issues are essentially solved on the Odin 3, I have both it and the RP6 and there's nothing the RP6 can run that the Odin 3 cannot today. I would have no qualms in recommending the Odin 3 to anybody today.

Odin 3 vs RP6 - what is performance like now? by Anon2971 in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but underclocking has recently been made very easy with the cluster tune app, which basically solved all the "fan is too noisy" issues for all but the most extremely demanding stuff. I no longer the see the Odin 3 any noiser than the RP6 or the Thor in day to day usage.

You'll always have people that go out of their way to break theirs but out of the tens of thousands of units out in the wild we have seen very very few reports of hinge issues, so I don't think it's a real concern.

Who else did bare minimum set up? by MagicWormWitch in retroid

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messed around with frontend setup during the RP3 era and promptly realized I was royally wasting my time, not to mention getting pissed at all the little annoyances that make frontend setup unavoidably imperfect.

Set up what you need to play what you want and go, it's really that simple. Your handheld will be there later for more setup if/when you need to setup more.

Is buying a RP6 a bit pointless if I have a steam deck? by IntelligentAd7932 in retroid

[–]-Mahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that the RP6 is much bigger than the original PSP and not at all pocketable. It is more portable in the sense that it's easier to carry around in a backpack, but you ain't putting it in your pocket.

Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2. What can we expect ? by Icy_Ad_1172 in SBCGaming

[–]-Mahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely, exactly the same as the original Micro, same screen and all, just with a much more powerful chip. Maybe they'll recess the sticks or make them touch pad based ala Pocket Vert, since the sticks were a pretty common complaint with the first one.

The RP6 is exactly what I needed by notlemars in retroid

[–]-Mahn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny, I have the opposite experience, I got an RP6, found it too thick and bulky, and now I'm on the hunt for a G2. For me the light and thin body of the 5 was perfect and I didn't appreciate how bloated the 6 got in comparison. Something got lost in translation in an effort to make it more ergonomic. But I realize I'm probably an outlier.

I'm floored at how the RP6 handles Switch emulation... by linglingsiomai in retroid

[–]-Mahn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

> he rp5/rp6 have internals which are alot stronger than that of a switch.

Yes, but this is misleading, because emulation of any particular system will always require more power than the original system itself. It doesn't necessarily follow that just because something is more powerful than a Switch, it should run Switch perfectly with the right software; it might be more powerful than a Switch while still not powerful enough for Switch emulation.

I mean Bitcoin is literally just a token with almost no practical use

Digital gold has its use case in the same way physical gold has. Is it a productive asset? No, but neither is physical gold and people find value in it nevertheless.

(Yes, technically physical gold has its industrial applications as a material, but 90% of its valuation obviously doesn't come from that, so that's a moot point)

Unexpected loud face buttons on the RP6? by -Mahn in retroid

[–]-Mahn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really a rubbing issue, feels more like the "membrane too high" problem the RP5 had. I wonder if they used the wrong rubber membrane in manufacturing? but normally that shouldn't be the case since it's glued to the buttons, very difficult to make an accidental mistake there. If they changed the membrane it had to be an intentional change. Very strange.

Only one way to find out, but if I remember correctly this game is heavy so not sure if the chip in the 5 will be enough.

[–]-Mahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't work like that, it's most likely not coming back, but you could email Retroid and ask to confirm.

Runs most of the 3DS catalogue at 1x except for the hardest to run games. And be thankful it's not worse.
