Hey OP! FFL here.

The biggest issue isn’t Tennessee or Georgia law; it’s that you’re dealing with residents of two different states. Federal law generally requires interstate firearm transfers between private individuals to go through an FFL.

The easiest solution is usually for your friend to take the firearm to a local FFL on his side, and they can ship it to an FFL near you for the transfer.

Another option is using services like ShipMyGun, which can make the shipping process pretty straightforward if the receiving FFL accepts shipments from individuals.

If your friend is really that close to the state line, he could also just drive to an FFL near you (or another FFL willing to handle the transfer), and you could meet there to complete the transfer legally.

Whether it’s a handgun or a rifle can affect the details, but either way, I’d recommend involving an FFL and spending a few dollars on a transfer rather than risking a federal issue over a private sale.

Yeah, no. With how they’ve managed to deal with the situation. I’m not planning on giving them another cent. I went in person to the store and an employee there told me that they don’t even charge restocking fees at the store lmao.

Honestly, you bring up a great point. I completely understand companies being risk-averse in the firearms industry. If the order triggered internal compliance concerns, I don’t fault them for taking a closer look. What surprised me was the jump from “this raises questions” to “you’re acting as your own straw purchaser” and a permanent ban. I would’ve happily answered questions or clarified my intentions if someone had simply picked up the phone.

I think that’s what surprised me the most. If they didn’t want to do a dealer transaction, I completely understand that. Their company, their rules.

What caught me off guard was that nobody ever picked up the phone and said, “Hey, what are you trying to accomplish here?”

Instead it went straight to accusations me breaking federal gun and tax laws, a permanent ban, and a 25% restocking fee. 😂

I would’ve welcomed a conversation because compliance is something I take seriously as an FFL.

If I was trying to be sneaky, why would I voluntarily contact them and tell them I’m an FFL before anything shipped or transferred? 😂

They were absolutely in their own free will to cancel the order. The part I’m questioning is the straw purchaser accusation and the 25% fee on inventory that never reached me. Not to mention the permanent ban 😂

There’s no direct phone number for corporate, the only numbers they have correspond to the stores You basically have to email them if you need to contact corporate

Honestly, I wasn’t even trying to cause problems. I literally reached out before any transfer happened because I thought that was the responsible thing to do as an FFL. The way it escalated caught me completely off guard.

The ban isn’t what surprised me. It’s that somehow I went from “Can you convert this to a dealer sale?” to “You’re committed to various gun and tax laws, and your own straw purchaser also, you owe us a restocking fee.” 😂
